Give a thought
Can you on this day we remember all those in past conflicts imagine if the world declared PEACE. No more wars no more civil unrest around the world. No need for armed forces , Weapons of mass destruction, Innocent young children losing their lives and suffering having there childhood and there lives snuffed out. Would we need Armed forces, Reserves. Spies, Could we all make our M.O.D. Redundant. Could the world live in harmony and peace. Put our differences behind us and start a fresh. I spent a lot of my sea time in the Caribbean, West Indies, Can never remember them invading or threatening anyone in the world. Well i can always dream Terry.

Re: Give a thought
Ted, on all the just recent ceremonies and platitudes about our people dieing that we would have freedom of speech etc. Are the remaining few survivors satisfied that the world has gone the way they expected and what they were supposed to have died for. The only way to find out would be to have a concensus of opinion from all those who gave their lives, I rather think quite a majority would be unsatisfied. What they fought for was an aggressor(s) who wanted domination of Europe just for starters, they would be coming back and see that this aim was nearly completed. What they fought for was their home and families and their own way of life. They have been morally and unashamedly let down by greaseballs. The United Nations set up after the war had good intentions there is no doubt about that, however as all organizations go after a while too many political figures get to play with and upset the applecart. There should be a charter brought out that in the event of a war only politicians were allowed to be the combatants. There would then be no need for armanents and troops as such. Close the borders and everyone lives happily ever after. Some hope of that when every year the west puts a bigger percentage of its gross national income into what they call defense. Defense should be border protection if we want to be politically correct, hence more Immigration Officers. Cheers John Sabourn

Re: Give a thought
RESPECT. Is the biggest thing lacking in our world today. This starts at the leading edges of our society down to the lowest. The leaders do not now respect another Nations Sovereignity. Apart from having no respect for their exalted position and for those that put them there, seem to be there for their own gratification. Gone are the days of unpaid council workers who accepted certain posts as an honour. Right down to the lout on the street who has no respect for anothers life or property, and a distinct lack of respect for the police and law and order. So until we put our own houses in order I think we should be careful of how we see and act with other nations. John Sabourn

HI John
I have always said that in the event of a war between two countries the first battalion to leave the shores
should be the first battalion of politicians. No one would step on to the gangways.

If they had any decency about them they should have volunteered to go in the Indian spaceship to Mars. They could then have checked that the part of such a venture more than likely paid by the British Taxpayer was being put to good use. Cheers John Sabourn

Re: Give a thought
The major world problem is one of power. The major nations, USA, China, Russia and to some extent UK all wield power and this power gives them the upper hand, what thye say goes. The poorer nations, Philipines, Iraq, and others are held to ransom by the major ones. If we had equality across ther globe the probolems of today would cease, but since man first walked upon the face of this earth it has been that way, survival of the fittest. Millions in starvation situations kept nthere by the powerful west so they do not pose a threat. Sadly it will never change as long as man lives.

Happy daze John in Oz.

So long as profit can be made out of war,it will never cease. Sorry to sound gloomy but just think of the obscene profit made from weapons of war.

Re: Give a thought
we live in a world were power is peace the threat of me hitting you with a bigger stick has paid of all the time during the cold war? now religion is the biggest threat to the world people have butchered each other because I am this and you are that so what do we do pull all places of worship to the ground like the old ussr did ?do and who says what we do then we are the bullies of the world.its a no winner lots of wars are all from old tribes pi..ing on each others lamp posts trying it on with others land we do need a world police then we turn into the ss or Nazi party someone has got to have the say in world peace but at this time there is no one that can step up to the plate because of reasons I have stated. the world needs an iron fist to stop wars and so far the nuclear bomb threat is and seems to be the only one? we seem only to protect oil not the African tribes that are killing each other for what we think is nothing but then again tell that to the Africans that have lost loved ones? there will always be wars because we are the most dangerous animal on earth and its us that will be its down fall like it or not?? just my view jp

Re: Give a thought
Reading all the replies, And taking into consideration the tensions the world over, The world has never been in a more unstable situation than it is now, If people only sat and talked honestly instead of spying on each other during world summits when these ministers and world leaders all shake hands and dine with each other they smile for the cameras and yet behind the painted smiles stab each other in the back, They all speak with fork tongue. They attend remembrance Sunday and offer thoughts for those who will be forever young and the fallen. Then it is forgotten in a whim until the next 11/11/11 Month. They return to their places of dirty deads and basically get on with the business of power and getting one over there fellow man. What a sad world we are leaving behind for our youngsters Terry.
