I have put this one in this section as I am not sure if it is true or one of those wonderful 'stories' we have all heard over the years.
The story centres around 'Confederate Dollars' ones used by the Southern states during the American Civil War. Apparently they were readily availble as soveniers during the 40's and 50's so any one could purchase them. They had no monetary value in the States but were popular with tourists.
The story as I head it was that two American sailors berthed in Aden in late 50's had a virtual suitcase of them, went ashore and spent the lot with the locals who seeing 'Dollar' on them thought they were genuine.
Have any of you heard this one, and is it true or just another Phurphy?
