On a lighthearted note. What do you think is or was the best Funnel design, colourwise & looks.
Mine was Blue Star Line, lots of colour but a bug*er to paint on a bosuns chair or a stage i.e. too many different colours.

I always thought Blue Star was the best. as you say Graham, hard work painting it , done quite a few.
The ones on the Empress of Scotland were the Highest I have soogied and painted,
I believe the very Tallest was an old Blue Funnel ship. about 90 feet high.

Ellermans CITY OF BRISBANE (BENCAIRN) & CITY OF WINCHESTER (BENVANNOCH) were the tallest funnels on a cargo boat.(must have been easier to paint when they were sold to Ben Line) South American Saint Line was the best and smartest.

Ithought the Nestor had the tallest funnel at around 95 feet or so. give or take a couple of feet . but on google...........................

Cunards Saxonia and Ivernia both had a single funnel which was 106 feet (32.3 m) tall, probably the tallest funnel ever installed on a passenger ship. Saxonia had a large cargo capacity, so much so that her passenger accommodations were smaller than most people expected for a liner of her size. Her four masts were intended to allow effective handling of larger amounts of cargo than was customary on a liner.[3] google

I quite liked the Achille Lauro with the go-faster fins at the top

For me its allways been Blue Star Line, very distinctive design, allways seemed to be kept smart.

Blue Star has to be the best looking, but as Graham said a pain in the Bum to paint. I remember in New Plymouth hanging in a Bosuns chair with half the paint-locker tied to my chair.
Palm Line, also had a nice looking Funnel.
