    Default Tectus

Hi Tracey, hope your keeping fine. The one your John was on was the Tectus (2), a bulk coal carrier. I was on the Tectus (1), a T2 type built in the States during the war. We could never get ashore as she was in and out of ports in less than a day. My dad told me, 'If you want to see the world, don't go on Liners or Tankers. Like 'Ajay' only did one trip. Hope to see you at the next meet-up Tracey, take care.... .jon dee in L-pool.

Hiya Jon, I hope you are well also, shame we didn't catch up at the Tall Ships. Yes I should have said Tectus 2. When John was on it he said it was a nightmare with one problem after another & the crew were nearly rioting. John also only did one trip with Shell. Take care Jon, see you at the next get together. Lots of love, Tracey.xx
Vernon, thank you, I do have the Helderline site in my favourites with about 200 hundred others I have since I first set out to find pictures of all my brother's ships many years ago now it seems.
    Kind regards,

    Hi Tom,
Were you on the Tectus when it was having one problem after another & the crew were threatening mutiny. She was in bad shape when my brother sailed on her, no water for the lads to have a shower, continual clanking noise which drove everyone daft & laid up for a while. She wasn't a happy ship from what I heard.
    Kind regards,

    Default 4 Roy Edwards

Hi Roy, been having some pc hick-ups recently. Yes we must have sailed together. I only did the one trip. Joined her in Eastham Nov '58. Five days in Curacao harbour waiting to go up the lakes to load ( Never got to 'Happy Valley') . Discharged a full cargo of crude in nine hours at Pernis Rotterdam. It was only by chance we pulled into Cardiff to have the tanks gas freed. The old hands said that was a sign she was going east of Suez. Needless to say that was me right down the gangplank. (See post #3 above). Just looking at my pay-off slip: £32 per month. Couldn't afford a taxi from Ellesmere Port to the Pool but fond memories of the Station/Ship/Horse & Jockey. Wonder if they are still there?. Best Regards m8. jdLp.

    Talking

HI JON, Sorry so long in replying, im afraid most of the pubs you mentioned have long since gone under development, that area has lost all its soul, the station (aka the railway) is still there but it hasnt been a pub for years now.i remember when we were moored up the pelembang river on the tectus the first mate handing me a chain stopper and telling me to go on the focsle and look out for pirates, when i asked where he would be he said he would be on the bridge with a gun. happy days!take care matey .R E.
