On the story of sea training schools brings me to ask a question. On my last cruise I met a guy who originated from Sheffield, now living in Oz. He told me thta back in the late 50's he was sent for a three month catering sea training course in Maidstone Kent. Has anyone heard fo such a place?

Maidstone ?
Notwithstanding, when I left school in 1959, I applied to join the Merchant Navy and the following January I reported to Gravesend Sea School in Maidstone Kent to commence my six weeks basic training as a catering trainee.
The above from an article i was reading John
I am sure that Mike Hall will know of this!
Cheers

Gravesend and Maidstone are two serarate towns, but it is possible the Gravesend school began life in Maidstone.
