Default Royal Australian Navy 100 years

This morning on the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy's first ship to enter Sydney Harbour is being celebrated with a magnificent flotilla of Naval vessels including Great Britain and tall ships. Unfortunately I am having computer problems but I urge those interested to catch up with the media. Prince Harry with our Governor General is representing his Grandmother, the Queen will be here on Sydney Harbour starting in little over an hour's time.

Got my days wrong - this is happening tomorrow but the big show has begun. Thanks Great Britain for building our RAN ships that arrived here on this day in 1913.

Here is a free pass to the celebrations http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-10-0...review/4998020

    Cheers,

Will be a great spectacle, but give a thought to Sydney Harbour authorities who have had to organize all this movement of shipping in the harbour re supply of pilots and berthing facilities no doubt they will do a great job with no public proclaim. Most of whom will be ex seafarers themselves. It takes a lot of organization for such events. John Sabourn

This brings back great memories of Oct/Nov 1966, I was on RFA Tidespring at the time , the fleet we went into Sydney Harbour with was supposed to be the biggest since WW2. The Carriers HMS Victorious, HMAS Melbourne, HMAS Sydney and numerous Destroyers and Frigates etc.
We couldn't go alongside at Garden Island because of the jet fuel and ffo aboard so they tied us up to wooden pontoons just in front of Sydney Bridge and we went ashore by launch to Circular Quay.
Great time, my mate Raymond and myself took 14 young ladies back to the ship one night for a party, (they all worked for the HSA some sort of medical company) anyway the view from the Monkey Island across the Harbour and the Sydney Bridge worked wonders for Romance in those days, (say no more)
Happy Days, to old now but the memories will never be forgotten

Just seen all the celebrations on Sky News, quite a spectacle and show, you Aussies have got far more
ships and planes than we have.
