Upwards
As it is snowing in Lancashire , here is a poem about it, in Lancashire dialect, UPWARDS is UPERDS! etc.
The wind it blew and icy blast
and in a northern Lancashire past
a lad came marching through the snow
He was carrying a Banner
with this ere motto,
UPERDS!
Now a Policeman on his lonely beat
stopped this lad at the end o`the street.
Now Where art going with that theer,
and lad whispered softly in his ear
UPERDS!
Now don't go down `t` clough, Policeman said.
Its a lonely path for thee to tread
and t` canals at bottom, deep and wide,
Ay , that's not my road lad replied, its
UPERDS!
Now, when people were sitting down to tea
they heard as plain as plain can be,
they thought it was Final Football score
until they heard this voice shout out once more
UPERDS!
A lass came out and said , Come in lad and sup,
but he said, Nay I am having none of yon
besides I must be getting on.
UPERDS!
Now when Sunday morning had begun
and t` lads were taking whippets for a run
the dogs began scratching beneath the snow.
and they found a Banner with this ere Motto,
UPERDS!
Then they found a lad, whose name they never learnt.
His face was pale and his toes were turn`t
UPERDS!
Now this story just goes to show
that when the fields are white with snow
It isnt very safe to go,
UPERDS!
