    Default Thanks to Marion

    Marion.

I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for your posting of the link to Les Miz. I am having a great time with it.

I really enjoy opera, bit of a bummer that it is sung in either French, Italian, or German. But the story line is always the same boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds the girl again, girl dies, it's the music, the voices. It was funny in my New York days, going to the Metropolitan Opera House and watching Pavarotti at 60 and fat playing a young swain, plus Tiri T Kinawa a 50ish young maid, but the voices!

Le Miz is opera at its best and double so as it is in English. I have watched the stage show now twice and I rented the movie and watched it twice within the 24 hour rental period.

I have scrolled down and watched the flash mobs singing Les Miz all over the world, plus I even discovered Collabro, great group.

I thoroughly enjoy stage shows. I used to see them in New York plus when on business trips to London (cheap ticket office in Leicester Sq.).

As for drama the best and the worst were British. The best was "Nicholas Nickleby" by Dickens, The Royal Shakespeare Company, on Broadway, an eight hour play, in the theatre at 10am, exit theater 10pm with two intermissions (for food).

The worst was Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, childish, boring, hammy acting, back of the wrist to brow and swooning. And they ask you not to tell who "dunnit'. You could never guess as the villain was not on the stage when the dirty dead was done...beyond boring.

I also enjoy ballet too. I paid off a ship after a ten month trip. I went home to Southend on Sea, and all my mates had gone, moved and the ones left were not interested really where I had been. So it's a winter evening, raining as usual and I'm sloshing down the high street, cold and lonely and I stopped outside the Odeon Cinema and they had ballet show appearing on stage instead of showing films, Saddlers Welles Ballet Company. So I figured I get in out of the rain. I remember I looked around first to make double sure no one I knew saw me going in, because only pansies liked ballet right! Well I went in and bloody enjoyed it. It was like watching Gymnasts, athletes, performing to some of the loveliest music I'd ever heard. I was hooked. Again, the story line was easy to figure out. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl, girl dies.

You got me rambling Marion, thanks once again.

Glad you are enjoying Les Miz Rodney 'tis my son's favourite too.
Pity about Mousetrap as I relished it on the London stage, mind you its 35 years ago and for the life of me cannot remember who done it. The only theatre I cannot abide is a Farce find them hammy and the humour forced in the extreme.

I love the Mousetrap, saw it several times on the London stage, they ask the audience not to give away the who done it.

I had two free tickets last time, still cost an arm and a leg with travel, stay, dinner etc but, well worth it.

    K.
