the old sailor
a sailorlay dying in an old sailors home
no family around him as they had long gone
and he cast his mind back to thedays he had seen
and tried to remember the places he'd been
from the cold northern seas
to the soth seas so warm
and the sea therelike glass
and the beauty of dawn
he remembered the tramp ships that went for so long
and the islands so green and filled with birdsong
of shipmates some good
and shipmates some bad
and all of the wonderful times that he;d had
of loves that were gone and promises made
to be lost like a breeze in a southerly trade
he heard a voice whisper
i think that he.s gone
but he new inhis mind that his memories live on
for the pull of the sea will never let go
and the old sailor sighed and just went with the flow
regards cappy

Re: the old sailor
I used to write song lyrics in my head to while away the hours on lookout, here are a couple of verses of one of them.
This was in my hippy, happy days so might not go down too well now.
.
The stars, they all are shining
There's not a cloud to be seen
The stars, they all are shining
The sea a deep velvet green
We are on a voyage to nowhere
Please don't wake us from our dream.
Why don't you come and join us
Be one of our family
We can sail the seas forever
Sail away from reality
Our eyes are opened
The visions we have seen
We are on a voyage to nowhere
Please don't wake us from our dream.

Never did know how many bells for a junk, John. Think it was 3 1/2.
