Re: Freak out mode
You have forgotten about those other international pariahs, who help you build roads, equip your militariy, bribe anyone that can help them, smear and plot against anyone that does not help with their ambitions.Who also use any other tactits of Victorian style capitalism including Gun boat diplomacy . I am sure the African continent will welcome the hand of friendship from that great friend of Africa. The Peoples Republic of China.

Re: Freak out mode
I think the old Russians are creeping in there. Africans are like the Arabs, they like being in a tribe with a chief running things. Well, the chiefs do anyway.

Re: Freak out mode
Africa is a very different country now to years ago.
Since the colonials left and the mad men took over they will run to any one that will give them a dollar.
Many still live in poor conditions while the 'chiefs' live in luxury.
China will go anywhere it thinks it will have influence or make it easier to take over more of the world with trade.

Hey Silly Me Re: Freak out mode
Thought I was going to read about conflicting views on the merits of Blue Funnel vs Cunard, Ellermans vs Bank line, but no, its all about African politics.I thought this was the M N Forum.
But i'LL get my oar in anyway. The lot of the poor african is no better now than it was when the colonials ruled. Whoever thought that change of despotic ruler ever made life easier for the common man?

If we restricted the conversations to the MN, we be like the current MN, very little! therefore very little to talk about!
The African Nations wanted the Colonials out and to have their own independence, they got what they wanted, if they can't manage what they've got, that's their problem. Everything's easy when somebody else is doing it for you, not so easy when you have to do it yourself. Just because you know the sharp end from the blunt end doesn't make you a shipping expert; likewise with industry and Governance, and not lets forget the corruption inherent in the independent countries, which everyone knows goes on but is taboo to mention. Anyway they didn't have their independence long as they are now being colonised by the Chinese and Russians and the Swiss Bank accounts are growing.
