Re: channel crossings
Slight mistake , I thought it was route Hook to Harwich but it was actually Calais to Dover . Sorry for the wrong info.
Just shows you how true annex No.1 to the colregs is. Assumptions made on scanty information are dangerous and should be avoided.

Re: channel crossings
#121 Is that the bit where it said “:The rules concerning lights shall be carried out in all weathers from sunset to sunrise and during such time no other lights shall be exhibited , except such lights that cannot be mistaken for the prescribed lights or impair their visibility or Interfere with the keeping of a proper lookout.” , whereupon every passenger ship on the high seas proceeded to break the law. Or “ These Rules shall be followed by all vessels and seaplanes on the high seas and in all waters navigable by sea going vessels except as provided in Rule 30 where as a result of their special construction seaplanes cannot comply with these rules , in such cases these rules shall be followed as closely as circumstances permit” .After 67 years can still remember the gist of the rule of the road of that era, another bit of useless information today cluttering up the memories of better things.one good thing about living in Holland John one could drink almost round the clock , the only break I can remember was the 2 hours they had to close for cleaning purposes. Is it still the same ?

Re: channel crossings
James, I am sure you will agree we are all we learned from our life time experiences.
Sadly, as is so often shown, most polis do not have this.
Ethics, transparency, loyalty, integrity, honesty go out once they are voted in.
We on this site would never make the grade into politics no matter how well educated we may be.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

As far as I can remember the annex concerned the sailing and steering section of the rules. Trying hard to think of another good thing about living in the Netherlands.
