O(n the S.S. Mahseer we picked one up , or should I say "it Picked us up in the indian Ocean.
We put into Durban and when we went out I am sure the same one picked us up again.
It stayed with us all the way until the old line around the world and within 20 miles of the line it just vered away and went south.
What a great sight it was.

Remember once finding a dead Albatross on some ship I was on.
No body wanted to sling it over the wall. Finally the bosun did it.
Once I chucked rind from a full side of pork to one. It took it down in one gulp.

There is a big Albatross on the Otago Peninsular at Cape Saunders it is a very popular tourist attraction

When we all had convinced ourselves that we did he said with a grin on dial "that's Australia". Of course we all knew it was a joke because we were looking Eastwood and it had to be South America.
I think the attached is taken of me near a monument on the Otago Peninsular at the time. I have some post cards of Dunedin in those days and will dig them out.

I saw it earlier this year and it had a big starboard List.

Things have changed a lot since you dida tour here the monument is still there but the Albatross colony as now been modernise since we have a lot of tourist coming here and the cruise ship inthe season about 50 ships inthe season some times we get a very wet day dont we Brian
No Brian, it was the Waitemata Ale I was enjoying in Dunedin before we left on the coach which was also chock full of vitamin P - the ale I mean. And I just noticed, Eastwood is a suburb of Sydney - the direction of Chile was the other way - eastward.
Thanks Lou for confirming that I was on Otago Peninsular as I had thought. One trip to Dunedin saw a bunch of us lads having a good time then missing the last public transport to Port Chalmers and we got a couple of lifts but walked much of the long way back. It was misty rain too if I remember rightly.

.. Hi Lou,
Never stopped raining, that day, Anne`s friend, Barbara paid 90 dollars to go to the Albatross
Place , got soaking wet and never saw one Albatross due to the thick mist.
As we sailed from Port Chalmers the ship was surrounded by Albatrosses, all for free, she was not amused.
