TODAYS MAIL ON LINE.
'Star entertainer' John Prescott's tasteless joke about wife Pauline's teen pregnancy
By Gerri PeevLast updated at 8:51 AM on 28th December 2010
Comments (41) Add to My Stories Lord Prescott made a public joke at the expense of his long-suffering wife Pauline about the son she gave away as a teenage mother.
The gaffe-prone peer is on board a Cunard cruise liner where he has been billed as a ‘star’ entertainer.
One passenger on Queen Mary 2 told the Mail there were lots of anecdotes, ‘with some embarrassing comments directed at his long-suffering wife sitting in the front row’.
Long-suffering: John Prescott and his wife Pauline, who he joked about
Comedy venue: Mr Prescott is travelling on the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship
One of these was: ‘I’ve got three sons, one’s half-American… you work it out.’
As a teenager, Lady Prescott became pregnant by a married U.S. army officer, not knowing he was married at the time. She put the boy, Paul, up for adoption but has been happily reunited with him.
It is understood that the newly anointed peer and his wife are receiving a free cruise around the Caribbean, worth around £40,000, in exchange for three speeches.
They managed to beat the snow and catch a plane on December 19 from Heathrow to New York where they boarded their liner, but only just.
The source said: ‘Prezza almost didn’t make it after flying out late from UK, due to snow, but he made it with only minutes to spare.
‘Departure of Queen Mary 2 on December 19 was delayed by over one hour. There is speculation that it was to enable Prescott to get there from his flight and board.
‘Meanwhile 200 other guests from UK couldn’t reach the U.S. to embark and missed the ship.’
A passenger revealed that the couple have been confined to the state rooms under the orders of Captain Paul Wright because they have been struck down by the norovirus.

The Prescotts are the only passengers travelling first class known to be ill. Others who have paid thousands for their voyage are worried they will become infected, too. A speech for January 1 has been cancelled.
The source said of the former deputy prime minister’s talk: ‘Most of the time he was almost too painful to listen to as he spoke so badly and addressed the mainly American audience as if he was talking to his Welsh comrades over beer and sandwiches. It was terrible PR for Britain!’

What an Animal. I bet he has eaten all the meat pies on the ship.
