Mast be a reason
Am I right in saying that on T2 tankers, the masts were always on the Staboard side of the flying bridge, while on british ships they were always on the port side? Or was it that the masts were always in the middle and it was the flying bridge that was on different sides? Not that it matters a lot, but its snowing like hell here so Ive got nothing better to do than ask daft questions Cheers Albi.

Mast be a reason
The last T2 I sailed on was the Texaco Melbourne 1982 and she was Jumboised. We were in the Caribbean. I was seeing double most of the time or perhaps I was double seeing. I am not sure. The one thing I am sure of the Mount Gay rum was in doubles.
We had snow in the early hours in South Glasgow and it is expected again, about four inches. I just heard the gritter. Very cold minus 5 degC on my weather station. I think I need a wee malt.

Your right the masts on T2s were on the starboard side of the flying bridge.
Here is a picture of the TECTUS, Shell tanker, I sailed on in 1954, the masts are on the Starboard side.
The CLUTHA RIVER I was on in 1962 British built had the Mast on the port side of the flying bridge.
Here is the TECTUS T2

Masts
Masts on port or starboard side ???????????????????/
Surely the masts were on the centreline, and it was the flying bridge that was either on the port side or starboard side of the mast and not vice versa.
From my limited experience with tankers it seemed that most British built tankers had the flying bridge to port of the masts and with USA built ships it was pot luck depending on which yard the ship had been built in.
But I stand to be corrected
Regards
Ivan

Hi Ivan,
I said the masts on a T2 were on the "starboard side of the flying bridge", NOT on the Starboard side, there is a difference.
Or maybe to be correct the flying bridge was on the port side of the mast, again same difference.
Anyhow see picture of the Tectus. the mast is on the centre line but is on the starboard side of the flying bridge. I am going back to my Famous Grouse. things look better with some of that inside.

Yup Captain
read in haste, repent at leisure, guess I'll join you in that grouse, anyway its all academic now, as I'm not likely to be lashed to the mast, am I ?
