Bill From a distance her profile would look just like one of the larger box boats.

    Hi Bill,
Thanks for the pics of the new Queen Elizabeth - not impressed at all. Having sailed on the old Lizzie, which in my opinion was the finest looking ocean liner ever built and also worked on the QE2, the new one looks nothing more than a floating gin palace.
    Regards,
    John.

Default Give me the oldies anyday!

Must say that although these new floating Hotels are a real marvel in engineering feats, they seem to all have the same sort of look, and i am sure do not give anywhere near the real feling of being at Sea!
The old ones were much smaller of course, but had a feel of their own,and for me anyway i dont think i would really like to go on a new Liner, as to book into some Luxury Hotel somewhere would for me be the same!
No give me the old rolling rattlers as we called some of them, with the feeling of the real Sea beneath our feet, the constant drone of those old and magnificent Engines that drove the Ships at an even but orderly speed!
I think the new era is producing these Monsters of the Seas plainly for Monetary reasons .much like any other Industry!
Oh to have the old days back!
Now i am again going back back back! Slap me someone and awaken me ! haah!
    Cheers

PS Thanks for the link anyway! Bill!

    Default Not another box please

Agree with all the above comments, where has flair gone in ship design. Have noticed on all these new floating boxes there seems to be no open bridge wings, everything seems to be fully enclosed. As an ex mate nothing was better than pacing the wing of the bridge in good and inclement weather, with no dirty glass or window frames to impede your view. When do these new guys get any fresh air!!!!!!!!!!

    Default The new Cunarder

Sadly, these modern day Pax ships go from ugly to uglier. I think Davey described it to a T - it does look like a giant house-brick (with a pointy end). Looks aside I wonder about the safety aspect. I do hope that I'm wrong, but what of the consequences if, one day, for whatever reason, one of these monstrosities finds itself 'beam on' to a very hostile sea. The pundits who build these ships would have us believe that it can't happen, but we who have first-hand knowledge of what mother nature can do, know differently. Can't help but think that they are a marine disaster looking for somewhere to happen........regards to all, Roger.
