Merchant Navy Day Respect!
Merchant Navy Day 3rd Sept 2010
Hands Across the Seas
Well it is very near the big Day once again, and I ask that we all no matter where you are join Hands across the Seas to celebrate this great occasion!
Let us not only join Hands, but Hearts and Minds to remember not only the present Day but the Days and Years that have gone by,and all the very Brave Seaman and others too that lost their lives in both the Wars so that we may be given a better life !
This great sacrifice is one that must never be forgotten, and long may we celebrate this special occasion.
So let us all take time in bowing our Heads in respect to all the fallen, and may they all be remembered and Rest In Peace!
We Shall Remember Them
Lest We Forget
With deep Sincerity and respect!

Merchant Navy Day Respect!
I appreciate that crew list is a new and popular post and also both important and again welcome and neccessary etc. Just wondered if we could have a break for a day or two, actually from about now until say Monday.
This would allow the highlighting of virtual headline International, MN Day postings.
Hopefully not to much to ask, at least for the 3rd of September and MN Day, until the 5th of Sept, Commemoration. There after I woiuld welcome a return to and respect all that occurs.
An MN Parlez time would or just seems appropriate, a little like a minutes silence but for a few days.
"The sea is their grave, no headstone to mark their passing"
LEST WE FORGET.

PLEASE ANSWER AND POST AND REMARK ON MN DAY.
MERCHANT NAVY DAY
September 3rd Every Year
THE MERCHANT NAVY WAS THERE EVERY DAY
The scattered flowers on the waves
Marked our hardy seamen’s graves
Since those floating blooms were cast
The peril`s over now and past
Shall our gratitude just sleep
Resting still across the deep?
Have our garlands sailed astray?
No, not on merchant navy day!

This year marks the 71st anniversary of the sinking of the British passenger liner S.S. Athenia on Sept. 3, 1939 -- the same day that Britain declared war on Germany and it also marks the commencement of the Battle of the Atlantic, the longest battle of the Second World War.
September the 3rd 2010 is to be New Zealand's first Merchant Navy Day, and celebrates the crucial work of the Merchant Navy's war-time efforts.
This year marks the 70th aniversary of the tragic loss of life sustained in Britain's worst ever maritime disaster, The sinking of HMS Lancastria on the 17th of June 1940.
The annual Merchant Navy Day Commemorative Service and Reunion at Trinity Square Gardens, Tower Hill, London is to be held on Sunday 5th September 2010.
Hopefully, catch up with all else on Monday.

Crew List
Keith,
I fully appreciate what you say but unfortunately removing the Crew List from the site for a few days would involve major changes to the database code.
I'm sorry my friend but I just can't do that.
Best Wishes,
Brian.

Thanks brian
As said value all, just wondered if all were advised, pos they may slow down, or put off adding such for a day or two, no major issue. Hopefully all on site may just input MN DAY stuff for a few days anyway. In the main not a major problem, if you don't ask you don't get touch. Worth a try.

Mn day
On September 3rd 1939, a few hours after war had been declared against Germany, the first shipping casualty occurred with the sinking of the Donaldson Line passenger ship, Athenia, and the loss of 112 passengers and crew. For almost six years there was barely a day went by without the loss of merchant ships and their crews.
MERCHANT NAVY DAY - September 3rd
Take a little care this day and glance above the tiles,
Perchance to see a flagpole visible for miles,
Atop of it a red flag proudly whipping tight,
A Merchant Navy ensign flying there by right.
From important buildings as well as from the sea.
It's flown to honour mariners and shipping history,
Sailing through the years, transporting all the freight,
Conserving of the lifelines keeping Britain great.
If you glance aloft and see with knowing eye,
A 'duster' at the masthead when you're passing by,
Please inform your offspring while going on to say,
A debt is owed to seamen under colours flown today.
