William Broderick
Good morning all,
Hopefully someone out there may be able to help. The above William Broderick was my GG Grandfather and he came from a line of Seafarers in the 1800’s. His father John (born about 1788 in Youghal Co. Cork) was a Coastguard but I’ve a feeling that he too may have been to sea before his Coastguard job, he moved to Larne around 1820’s to take up a new Coastguard Station position. There are other male members in the family, Michael & James who were elder brothers of William (possibly born in the early or mid 1830’s). All I can find on Michael & James is that they were both Sailors but nothing more than that.
I’ve been luck enough to get some photos of William who was born 1855/6 ish, alongside 2 of his sons. I’ve been able to find one of his trips to Quebec on a ship called Charger. From what I can gather he sailed for some years and then took a job on a local steamer, Belfast to Bangor (mainly day trippers) and ended his days as a Berthing Master for Belfast Harbour as did 2 of his Sons John & Samuel.
That’s a thumbnail sketch of William but I’d like to know of his other voyages and pointers, with links if possible, where I can research Michael & James.

Wonder if this may be the same William on the Ship St Seiriol 137413
Als shows Previous Ship???
William Broderick; rank/rating, Fireman; age, 23; place of birth, English; previous ship, Archimedes.
I wonder if he would have been on that Ship Charger in 1872 as well. As his discharge shows 1875 he may well have been on her for a while ??
Cheers

Re: William Broderick
Thank you for your reply. I’ll have another look at PRONI & National Archives @ Kew.
