Stupidity or not
It's well documented on other posts about Ferguson and the new Ferries, what hasn't been documented is the investment in the yard.
Whenn Jim McColl of Clyde overs purchased the yard was outdated and had suffered from lack o mof investment for decades. First thing CColl did was modernise the yard. Outdated buildings were torn down and replaced. A modern assembly hall was built, the latest machinery was installed.
Due to the problems with new Ferries and the design and build contract, the yard was nationalised.
One of the reports that looked the yard recommended that a further £14mshould be invested to make the yard competitive.
The money has now been released and investment gas commenced.
Meanwhile Cmal, has ordered new ships from Poland, this order jepordise the long term future of the yard. Lack of joined up thinking..
But then again the SNP and Fergusons have prior history. In (I believe) the SNP placed on order with Polish yards for two ships,, thus jeordising Fergusons future at that time.
