I was just trawling the Net and came across this Line. Just wondering if any on here may have at some stage Served with them , and if so what Ships were you on, and where did you go!
Looks like it could have been a good one?

Re: Nelson Lines
#1 Sailed with an AB called Nelson who jumped ship in Cairns FNQ he got home before us , so the Australian immigration didn’t turn a blind eye to his antics as was deported. Often wondered about his ancestry. JS

Re: Nelson Lines
Can’t remember his Christian name but he was a small blond stocky man. In those years the immigration used to turn a blind eye if you were over 18 and kept your nose clean. Probably why Cappy was deported as was under 18 at the time. He would have been the first to put the record straight. Hope his grandson who wrote to me carries on looking at his posts as might get an insight to Cappys nautical career. We were all young at one time and a bit more frisky. Cheers JS.

Re: Nelson Lines
Can't say I remember that shipping line, but look like nice ships.
As for jumping can't remember the number of times I was going to jump in Aus ports, but lack of money restrained me. AS my father always said make sure you have enough cash to cover your ****.
Cheers Des

Re: Nelson Lines
I came very close to going in kiwi , what or one of the things that stopped me my old man would have done his nut as he was liable for the 30 pounds surety on my head.
Thirty pounds was a lot of money in those days , don’t think he ever saw 30 pounds in one go. JS

Re: Nelson Lines
The A.B. called Nelson could have been from Dover and Folkestone area where he was a well known "character'' in the late 60'S era.

Re: Nelson Lines
My uncle first went to sea with the Nelson Line in the early 20's as a deck boy. First ship was the Highland Brigade. He spoke well of them and loved that ship. A very fine company in their day. He eventually clawed his way up the ladder and ended up Master with Bank Line. He had a very considerable influence in my eventual career at sea.
