Re: Sea temperature
Hi Peter.
I was on a BTC tanker the British Captain in 53 went up the Mississippi to Baton Rouge after cleaning tanks coming across the Atlantic, some of the tanks got knocked back by the Inspector, We were going to have to go back down the Mississippi and out in the gulf to clean them, the next thing he came back aboard and said we can leave it as they thought that by the time we got to Amsterdam the contaminated tanks would have dissolved into the cargo which was the case, except for one wing tank. Unfortunately someone decided to clean the tanks alongside immediately they were finished, which resulted in three Abs being gassed, they were taken to hospital and were lucky to survive.

Re: Sea temperature
Des my only experience on tankers was on two clean products carriers for 12 months 3 of them spent on your own old coast line of Kiwi. We used to load a full cargo of petrol in the Refinery at Whangerai for all the garages in North and South Island. We never used to tank clean between cargoes .However I still managed to get knocked down when going down the after pump room to close a sticky valve by hand and descended the last 6 ladder steps on my nose . Luckily the Chinese crew witnessed it and came down dressed for the occasion and pulled me out . Trying to hold one’s breath in gas conditions I found doesn’t work, the hard way. Cheers JS

Re: Sea temperature
Oh dear James, one has to wonder if you lead a sheltered life.
Dr. Google of course does not exist, but for so many who will look up their symptoms on the net before going to see their GP.
Sad thing is that some take note of what Thye find and do not see the GP.
Self diagnosis is what it is known as.
