Related to Circular
I served in the M/N for about 6years Fortuantly in peace time.A very great deal is owed to the crews who sailed during the war. Is there a national Merchant Navy Day ?If not there should be.
Just my opinion.Thank you for the article.
Regards, Laurie.

3rd of September EVERY YEAR
3rd September 2018 marks Merchant Navy Day
Join the Merchant Navy Association on this day in mindful recognition of those who lost their lives in both times of conflict and peace.
We hold dear our past friends and colleagues as well as all those who sailed near and afar with our countries health and wellbeing in mind.
The Merchant Navy Association | Merchant Navy Day 2018Merchant Navy Day 2018 - The Merchant Navy Association
The Merchant Navy Association represents the interests of past and present British merchant seafarers. As part of this, it commemorates those who served in the two World Wars and other conflicts at services held by its branches throughout the UK around the time of Merchant Navy Day which is on 3rd September each year. Services are held too in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The principal service takes place annually at the national Merchant Navy Memorial in Trinity Square Gardens on Tower Hill in London EC3 on the Sunday immediately following Merchant Navy Day. In the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the three memorials there bear the 35,395 names of those from the First and Second World Wars together with the Falklands Campaign for whom there is no known grave but the sea.
Merchant Navy Day - 3rd of September EVERY YEAR and the annual Service at the national Merchant Navy Memorial in London on the following Sunday.
Services also take place on 3rd September annually at each of the 38 Merchant Navy Association branches across the UK:-

Since 2000, Merchant Navy Day on 3rd September has honoured the brave men and women who kept our 'island nation' afloat during both World Wars, and celebrated our dependence on modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for 95% of the UK's imports, including half the food we eat, plenty of the fuel we burn and virtually all the products and goods we take for granted!

Re: Related to Circular
After all the fuss and push to get September 3rd recognized here in Oz, by PM Rudd, as Merchant Navy Day I would have considered any one living in Melbourne would be aware of that.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
