Germany
Just returned from a weekend in Hamburg, seeing family.
Spent a few hours touring the refeer CAP SAN DIEGO, restored and pristine condition on Hamburg's waterfront.
On entering the engine room I was transported back all those years by the smell of hot oil and other engine room smells. The engine is kept warm. it is as though she was getting ready to sail.
Spent a few hours touring her. She now has the hotel capability, if you want to spend the night on her.
The other thing that I noted was the amount of old ships that were in and around the Port of Hamburg.
The Stettin and icebreaker.
The Rikmer Rikmers a restored sailing ship and many more, all in excellent condition.
What have we got in the UK?, very little, considering our maritime heritage.
Sad isn't it?
Regards
Vic
