Thanks for that Charlie, that was our playground in the summer and to think we used to swim in it when all the industries were pumping their waste into it.The kids in those days must've had some strong built in immune system,I think if the kids today had a few mouthfuls of that canal as it was they would be attending hostpital for their stomach tobe pumped out.

It was always full of dead dogs, cats, and old bikes, an occasional dead body but still made a good swimming place.
happy times for kids, they would not do it today.

The Lads Club had a boxing training camp at Parbold alongside the L.L.Canal; so that is where we used to swim.
    Cheers

That was me and our kids swimming baths as kids we used to go to the old lift bridge Litherland in the summer holidays, There would be dozens of kids diving in I can never remember anyone coming to any harm, Jim when was the last time you were up that way I will post some pics this evening, They are currently draining the cut under the old swing bridge as it is to be dismantled, There is also something going on at the big roundabout outside seaforth station. I think this has something to do with the extension of peel holdings in the free port these mersk ships that are to arrive shortly some of those containers are bigger than both our houses. Yet we are being told very little Terry.

That was the thing when we were young, we paleyd in all manner of places thta today would be taboo. BUt by doing so we built up immunity to all manner of diseases, the kids of today will never gain that immunity.

Where these kids are swimming there were many factories including Tate & Lyle.I think this is where the canal had lots of hot water pumped into it by the factories and where they swam was known as "the scaldie" because the water was warm.
