Vic, regretfully many boo Margaret Thatcher on here, she gets blamed for many things she didn't do. I know one thing for sure had she been in charge now ISIS wouldn't have been as prolific as they are and she wouldn't have been scared to make decisions because of political correctness. She had more balls than all the current leaders put together and that's what the opposition didn't like about her, she put the UK first and Salmond would have been in the fish fryer long ago.
Maybe they booed because they cant get a council house after Maggie sold them all off !!!
Regards.

Plenty of council houses for immigrants Jim.
Just to steer away from the Salmon / Sturgeon combo of hot air and hotter air for a moment
Individual local authorities have always had the ability to sell council houses to their tenants, but until the early 1970s such sales were extremely rare. The Labour Party initially proposed the idea of the right of tenants to own the house they live in, in its manifesto for the 1959 General Election which it subsequently lost. That was Hugh Gaitskill vvs Harold Macmillan .
Later, the Conservative-controlled Greater London Council of the late 1960s was persuaded by Horace Cutler, its Chairman of Housing, to create a general sales scheme. Cutler disagreed with the concept of local authorities as providers of housing and supported a free market approach. GLC housing sales were not allowed during the Labour administration of the mid-1970s but picked up again once Cutler became Leader in 1977. They proved extremely popular, and Cutler was close to Margaret Thatcher (a London MP) who made the right to buy council housing a Conservative Party policy nationally.
In the meantime, council house sales to tenants began to increase. Some 7,000 were sold to their tenants during 1970, but in two years that figure soared to more than 45,000 in 1972 The Edward Heath Years ,
So sorry to disagree , but it started as Labour manifesto policy and was initiated by Ted before Margaret Thatcher let it loose .
The information from Labour's manifesto can be read at http://www.labour-party.org.uk/manif...anifesto.shtml makes good reading
.
Again, Maggie getting the blame for nothing.
the Labour Party Propaganda Machine must have been working overtime.
and who the hell would want to buy a council house anyway or Indeed want to live in a council house.
I lived in one for 28 years, and Paid the Rent and Rates, No housing benefit or any kind of Benefit, a lot of people whinge and moan about their situation, They are in charge of their own destiny, If you want something good , go and get it and not expect Tax Payers to pay. I spent times when I was uemployed but I did what I had to do to improve my life for my family. But some people seem to Resent success.
I could have bought it , for £7,000 no way. I bought a nicer house instead in a better locality.
As Rob says she had more balls than all the other leaders, including Labour put together.
Cheers
Brian.
I am surprised that Margaret Thatcher did not shoot the Archduke Ferdinand , Start the Jarrow people off to a march , and invent the Mr Whippy Ice Cream , ( She did do that last one ) . I believe NO politician , they all have short memories and deep pockets.
My father's and my mother' families were Coal Miners some died because of their job , they worked hard and the mine owners got richer . At heart I am a socialist , but in the years I have been eligible to vote I have never seen a socialist stand yet , There were plenty of Communists , What I have is mine and what you have is mine too , New Labour , what is yours is mine and tough . Scottish New Labour , What you scum must do is make me a millionaire and that is because I am wonderful and wear a red rosette , but a socialist , name one !!
A friend of mine who lives in Scotland and his mother lives in England, her car insurance company has told her that if the verdict is for independance, her son will not be able to drive her car, as they do not insure foreign drivers!!!, not a joke but true. The insurance company is underwritten by Aviva. So many unanswered questions KT
I just spent half an hour replying to the council house debate and it vanished worst luck!!!
