Re: Dazzle Camouflage.
I remember being taught about this at School in the 1940s. I think these are the first pictures I've seen.

Just of interest !
Cheers
Mountbatten Pink, also called Plymouth Pink,[1] is a naval camouflage colour resembling grayish mauve. It was first used by Lord Mountbatten of the British Royal Navy during World War II. After noticing a Union-Castle Line ship with a similar camouflage colour disappearing from sight, he applied the colour to his own ships, believing the colour would render his ships difficult to see during dawn and dusk. While the colour was met with anecdotal success, it was judged by experts to be equivalent to neutral greys at best and would make ships with the colour more obvious at worst.

Re: Dazzle Camouflage.
The submarine HMS ALLIANCE has reopened this week in Gosport submarine museum, after a huge refit, she was used in 1965 during the far east conflict to trial different camouflage paint. For anyone who has not had a visit on her, its well worth a shufty , KT

Re: Dazzle Camouflage.
As they are to go on show in June I should imagine that they will be completed by the end of May which coincides with the Liverpool meet up.For anyone attending the meet up who are interested in viewing the Liverpool Pilot boat it's only a short walk across the road from the Pen&Wig.
Regards.

Re: Dazzle Camouflage.
the pilot boats are really smart looking boats ....on the tyne they look very sharp looking as they come in and out .......having said that it must be difficult for someof the older pilots climbing up the side of a ship in ballast on a night with a bit of a blow regards cappy

Re: Dazzle Camouflage.
Keith whilst there should also go and see the Hollande 1. Will see my handwriting in the Deck Log book of her finding etc. That should prove I can write my name, Cappy says I just use a cross. Did the tour of the submarine in question, that is if it was the same one of about 7 years ago, Very claustophobic. The submariners of those days some didnt have proper sleeping quarters or anything just on top of stores or anywhere. The few bunks in existance must have been very hot as would be in use all the time. Totally different as of this day with the big Nukes, must be like palaces to the old submariner. Cheers John S
