Just in case any ex MN officers may not be aware the MNOPF is being wound up on or before the 5th April 2014 and if you were a MN Officer (or widow of same) before April 1978 it is essential that you contact the Trustees before that date using a recorded delivery service if you fall into one of the following categories
You have already been notified of the proposal to wind up the old section by the Trustee
You are already receiving a pension from the MNOPF
You have made a claim for benefit from the MNOPF and received a response
If you think you may be affected then write in with full name, date of birth and period of service. I know many of us cashed in our MNOPF when we left the sea in the 60/70's as we realised that £7 per annum pension wouldn't go far by the time we reached retirement age, but best to cover yourselves with a letter, as we are the most screwed service in the UK and you may benefit

Re: Mnopf
I got a letter the other day, [ just been away for four days and have lost it already] It was regarding the old Section.
and I think they said it would not affect our pension.
I must find that letter, and check it out.
The MNOPF should write it out in a more clear language.
Cheers
Brian.
