Hi shipmates, A tale a few years no names no call backs, I was talking to a gentleman from mother India who gave me some advice ??? he told me how to become A G.P. in the U.K. My schooling finish many years ago, as posted at sea age 14yrs. I have no A levels or any other bits of paper to my name ? he said not a probelm and he gave me all the information where to go and who to see, But I did not follow his advice as I was skint, and bringing up a family, he has done very well he now has several propertys and much more he is still a G.P.
John C & Cappy, hey be nice he did learn English with a Welsh accent & the head wobbling is top notch.
I too felt the brits sense of desperation when they looted the wealth of India long time ago. You people were beggars when you visited India under a dirty cloak of EAST INDIA COMPANY and transferred all the wealth in tonnes and tonnes of gold and diamonds to your native, do you know the fact that the KOHINOOR DIAMOND right in the middle of that 90 year old lady's crown, your queen was robbed from India.Do you know the fact that in BC era or prehistoric era When you people were uncivilized and trying to learn how to converse with each other, we Indians established universities and were centre of civilizations. and old chap listen one thing the richest person in britain who pay tax to your country in millions so that chaps like you can reap benefits is an Indain, LAKSHMI MITTAL.
The advice is you need practical experience not paper qualifications , if you read the answers you will see that , you need experience , and there are no British jobs , so again the advice tells you look to an India based company , gain experience , obtain your seafaring certification , a marine degree over three years is not what you need .Experience is essential , get it sooner rather than later .
And i too don't want to do Job in Uk, Just i wanted to know about scope of a mechanical engineer as a seaman. I was told that mechanical engineers to can become seaman without any degree in marine engineering. And ya i know Britain is in recession i just wanted to do some marine course which could make me equivalent to a marine engineer, anyways thanks for replying.
I shall repeat what I have already said , you need experience , practice , working knowledge , Paper qualifications will not make you a seafaring engineer , you need practice , join a shipping company as an apprentice , learn the skills , obtain sea time , there are few jobs here , you will stand a better chance with international companies . As a trainee , to learn the job , you cannot jump the system with paper . Write to shipping companies , you will find jobs are scarce , rare , hard to find ,
Look up. Www.carersatsea.org , that is step 1 all the information you need can be found there , but that Ellson you experience is needed , that means get a job , that is the hard part , get past that the rest is easy , to get that job try the Indian companies , there are no jobs here , here are few briish ships left . If you are a Christian then you may get employment with OM , they have offices in India
