Regrets at Sea

Reading that John inspired a new thread. What were your biggest regrets whilst at sea?
My main regrets were never getting to Hong Kong, the Aussie East Coast and New Zealand. My biggest regret was not staying on after 7 years. There was so much more that I could have seen and done.

No regrets just some sadness
Hi Shipmates My only regret is that the ship owners sold the "Patia" I would still be there 40 + years later if I could??? but my life/time move on and changes course, no more will I travel the world a singleman and fancyfree !!! with good mates . but now live weight down with care and worry ,like everyone else with a family ? but its not all bad.I can still dream and talk about the old days. The places I seen have all gone and been replaced by The concrete jungle ,and modern life in every place everywhere and every one ilives in a panic. The Merchant Navy I knew has long gone into the history books !!! Now its about non British massive ships with quick turn around with more sea time.

regrets at sea.
Two Regrets come to mind, first is i should have joined at 16 ,same as my brothers, not waited untill 21, second is i never went Far East, should have joined a Bank Line Ship to visit some of the lesser known Ports. Japan and Hong Kong were the 2 i most wanted to see, problem was most Companies going there did no employ European Engine Room Ratings. Tony W.

have regretted leaving the sea ever since i left. also not seeing the far east only bombay and ceylon and port louis. would have liked to see more of the interior of places. furthest i got was the blue mountains sydney, cycling inland from mombasa, lower hutt and taita, wellington, nz and various bus and train trips, plus a couple of car trips.
