    Default Liverpool turaround port.

It would seem that Liverpool have been successful in obtaining permission to become a turnaround port for cruise ships and could start operations by the end of May as they have agreed with the government the amount of money they have to pay back. This was reported by BBC news Liverpool on 3rd February 2012. If I knew how to put the link in to the report I would do that. However if you google it, all the news is there.

It will be interesting John to see if they can put all the infrastructure in place at the Pier Head in time. They will need all kinds, Arrival Hall, places for Immigration and Customs, Parking facilities, and how about the storing of the ships where are all those lorries going to park, certainly not on the floating terminal. I am sorry but I don't think the Council have gone into it properly and I just hope they don't make a laughing stock of the city.

Yes I see what you mean Chris. I have to be honest I am not familiar with Liverpool as it is these days. The first time I went back there in 10 years was last March but we are visiting again in September. I would have thought that the Council leaders had plans drawn up well in advance so that they could facilitate the ships. Lets just hope that it comes off.

Maybe they could use the old Cunard building restore it to it's glory days?

You would be surprized at the small amount of space need for such operations. Remember they turn a cruise ship around in about 10 hours including taking on stores, clearing out all the rubbish etc. All passengers disembarked within two hours no matter how many on board. Immigration is normaly in a temporary set up, coming in as required, as there amy be days when no ships are in.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Default Liverpool turnaround port.

I heard that report on the radio and it was misleading. After listening to it most people were of the opinion that it would be up and running by May.Liverpool council were a bit premature to say the least in issung this story,as I see it there is a log way togo yet beforeit becomes a turnaround port.Incidently Cunard issued a statement last week that they have no intention of leaving their "Home Port Southampton" shortly or ever in the future.Fred Olsen has a number of cruises booked from Liverpool this year they will be leaving from the scrap heap at the Langton dock.
