The Tower Ballroom, New Brighton
Following on from the Silver Marines Services thread.
I am sure there are many of the membership that frequented subject venue in the 60s. Being a local of the area in the 60s it would be interesting to here your input.

In 1952 I first went to the Tower Ball Room, I was on the Commodore Grant discharging manganese ore from India. We went to the Tower on Saturday night and I danced all night with a very attractive young lady, took her home to Upper Rice Lane in Wallasey, I continued to see her for a couple of years after, and dance in the Tower between voyages, I lost her when I was seeing another young lady at the same time and wrote a letter to them both from South Africa and put Gwens letter in the envelope addressed to Betty and Bettys letter in the other envelope addressed to Gwen, Never saw any of them again. What a divi.
They will both be 76 years old now, I wonder what kind of a mess they made of their lives by kicking me into touch.
.Cheers

Brian,
I too was a regular to the Tower in the late 50s early 60s. New Brighton was certainly an exciting place to be those days. I am glad to hear that there are great plans to regenerate the place.
Fond memories of the Tower, Kraal and Creep.

They certainly did have pro wrestling at New Brighton Tower in
those days. Being a Wallasey lad mysel, my father and I were
regularattendants at the wrestling. Happy days.
P.S. Also regulars at matches of New Brighton F.C.,
who if memory serves, played on a ground either on, or
very close to the Tower Grounds.
Cheers,
Pat Baker.

Pat,
Were they not referred to as The Rakers?

Capt. Bill,
yes I have rather vague memories of the name "Rakers".
Was that perhaps when they had a ground in Rake Lane.
It was all 60 years ago and memories fade.
Best regards to you.

I remember the Tower in the sixties, saw the Beatles there and a few other famous local groups. Remember the wrestling when I was a kid and the Football club, they were in the third division north in those days.
Also used to fequent the Kraal Club but not the creep. Another clubs were called Grandma's and the Late Extra and the Melody Inn.
Talking of the Cavern club in Liverpool, last January me my wife and son stayed at the new Beatle Hotel in North John Street, it is called "Hard Day's Night' and well worth a visit, it is right around the corner from the cavern in Matthew Street, we had a good night there as well with a Beatles knock off band playing, it was just like the old days in the sixties
Happy Days

Pat,
That is probably the reason and I did not, until reading your post, associate the two.

Always used to enjoy Friday at the Tower. When ashore for Second Mates and Mates it was the highlight of an otherwise stressful week of study. We exported one or two decent bands or two as well The Beat something was one. Any memories out there.
