W.W.II. Memorial.
I recently visited Washington D.C. and the W.W.II memorial. The memorial is fairly recent but adjacent is the original bronze memorial erected by a 'Grateful Nation to it's Military'. The memorial honors Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, Navy Air Force, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and THE MERCHANT MARINE. It's nice to know that somewhere the M.N. is considered military.
Cheers, Rodney.

I was there too
I also visited DC a couple of years ago, and took a photo as well , I have lived in the States for 48 yrs now and, as well as being a former member of the MN, I am also veteran of the US Army, among the friends I have made there is a former member of the US Merchant Marine who sailed on the Liberty Ships. He has the same complaints as his British compatriots about the lack of recognition, again like the UK they are finally getting the recognition they so richly deserve.
If anybody on the Forum who served on the Liberty Ships, I forget what they were called in the UK, make it to San Francisco, there is a working vessel and for a small fee you can sail on it for a couple of hours
