Default £1 Houses Britain's Cheapest Street.

This TV show on tonight Channel 4 9.00pm.The highs and lows of first-time buyers in Liverpool's notorious district of Wavertree as they transform derelict houses bought for just £1.00 from the council.
This was a good area to live some years ago,it became a place for students flats and bed-sit land. Many undesireables moved into the area asylum seekers illegals etc so it went really downhill.Houses are not for landlords private buyers only who must not sell for 5 years, providing enough people buy the houses and take pride in them I'm sure the area can get back to what it was.How about this for a shock to the system after you have moved into the area.I think they were and Indian couple who were coming up the road when a woman walks into the middle of the street up skirt down knickers stoops down and has a s**t right in the middle of the road.I suppose they thought what have we moved into here.
    Regards.

Jim, I know you new our Billy as he sailed with your brother {never did get hold of his book} Anyway he lived down upper parliament street L8, We as in my old man and just about the whole family as he was getting older coaxed him no end to come back to his roots Seaforth, He would show up at my old mans house every Thursday because his pension was still being collected by him at the post office here in Seaforth. Cut a long story short police knocked on my old mans door one night to inform us Billy had passed away and was found in his flat in upper parliament street. And could he come and I,D, Him and collect his personal things from his flat i went with my old man and done the I,D, After we came out we where met by a police officer who gave us his address and asked us to clear out his flat yes no problem. We went to the house on upper parliament knocked on the door as we had no key a guy who was we found out later the landlord come to the door and denied any knowledge of him ever living there he was an {Arab} We explained the situation over and over and after about 10 minutes there must have been 8/10 tenants of all nationalities gathered in the hall way turned out they never all new Billy had passed away and where not prepared to give out any information as they thought we where police looking for him. They where very close nit communities down there regardless of color or creed Billy always said when asked i am among friends down the South end and i can fully understand him in hind sight niebhours who have each others back instead of stabbing you in the back are very few and far between these days Terry.

Our state gov has come up with a plan to assist first time buyers.
Gov will pay for 25% of the house, buyer the rest.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Want to sell a few years later, well maybe the gov does not want to part with their share!
Another fine mess they got us into

Will there be more £1 homes going up for sale?

Liverpool council says there has been an overwhelming response to the scheme.

    Hi John.
There have been first home buyers schemes on the go here in NSW since Neville Wran was in power. the only thing with it is that there are a lot of fiddles, the checking is poor. A few year ago many Kiwis came over here and after a while applied for and got the 3% that the Govt paid at the time, after a couple of years they sold up and back to NZ not a bad little fiddle, I don't know if they can still do that, but I bet our friends from he Middle East have latched on to it multiple times.
    Cheers Des

Watched the program last night, you must have some wealthy parents in Scouseland !!, bank of M@D, was in evidence a lot. Thought it was a good idea except they seemed to have a lot of applicants, why could the council not have waited till they all started renovations ?, that would have immediately given them a community and looked out for one another and their properties. The first couple in looked very lonely. Will continue to watch to see if a community eventually forms , kt

###i also watched the pound house program last night ...i think the incentive to own something of there own is what i would consider a great step forward for the applicants ...it will not be easy ...some will fall by the roadside ......but with the minimum wage it gives a great chance to young families to get on the ladder ..it is certainly not beyond any working couples reach ...but they must save a deposit and get there priorities of life right ....on the other side how on earth the bloody council chucked people out before they got the money to build the new is a perfect example of the quality of folk who run our cities ...they should be imprisoned for reckless business .......if any person running there own company was to cock up like them ..they would be bankrupt....but no there he was smirking and smiling taking the accolades ......as for the security the police should be making a concerted efffort to keep the trash at bay .......my thoughts are it is a yardstick for more of this kind of chance for young folk to get a start .......i believe once they have got the street filled they will take care of there own security.......great news to see it all happen ......cappy

I think the council for a start could've cleaned up the back alley and alleygated it.Most alleys in Liverpool are now alleygated to stop fly tipping and house breaking has gone on the decrease, each householder is given a key to the gate.
I'm not sure if Eric Pickles had a hand in putting the blocks on the councils plans for this area,he did in another area not far from this district.

I watched the second episode of this last night, and initially my thoughts that it was a good idea, however, as last nights episode showed, it had not been too well thought out and executed. Until you have completed the house to the councils satisfaction, they do not sign the house over to you, and one guy last night had finished his renovation, including all his fitted kitchen, could not get it insured because the property was not yet his. The house was broken into while he was away, Jesus, you've got some upmarket burgers there !!!, to get the American style bridge out they took out some of the door frame, and brickwork, and then humped it over the 6ft high back gate !!. The poor council guy trying to placate everyone with his hands tied behind his back, looked really stressed out, . One interesting point surfaced , that one Mooslim couple, because of their faith, would not take out a mortgage, did anyone else hear that ?, because of their faith ????, kt

It is against their faith Keith to pay interest on borrowed money. The policeman was put on a spot there last night when he was asked,to get onto the property ladder would he live there,he took his time answering and then the answer was no.I think maybe the thieves had a key to the alleygate, maybe they used to live in that road, the alleygates are over 6ft high with a roller on the top even 4 men lifting it over there would take some doing. As I see it the whole thing is a shambles on the council side of it,it will be interesting to see how it pans out over the next few weeks.I think that is in Cunard Bldgs.where they go in for the interviews the council have bought that Bldg for their offices.
