Default Explanation of universal credit for those that have never heard of it

    *guide to*Universal Credit in Scotland.

Universal Credit is a single monthly payment for people in or out of work.

It replaces some of the benefits and tax credits that you might be getting now:

Housing benefitChild Tax CreditIncome supportWorking Tax CreditIncome-based Jobseeker’s AllowanceIncome-related Employment and Support Allowance

You might be invited to claim Universal Credit if you live in England, Scotland or Wales.

Universal Credit was introduced in Northern Ireland in September 2017.

Not exactly STAR WARS THEN ?

Universal suggests for anyone in the Universe ?

Possibly, GB and parts of the UK credit may deter Martians etc later on ?

    May stop some Aliens ?

    Just a thought.

#1,,Thanks Rob. So if I go.back to the uk in a couple of months if get the all clear from the Dr. I will just do as normally do and inform the DHSS in South Gosforth that am back in country that is arrival and leaving dates and they update the pension to level would receive if lived there permanently for that period in time. So just business as usual for me. Cappy is still 2 rounds short from a couple of years back and will make the journey purposedly just to see him cry when he puts his hand in pocket. Cheers JWS

it was meant to simplify the system which it does , even Labour agreed with it,

the snag was the 0800 phone number was costly from a mobile and people were hanging on for £££££££ , that s now a freephone number ,

the second problem was a six week delay in the first payment

people getting weekly benefit had six week of no money , so had to get loans , from loan shark companies , costing a fortune . landlords were not getting paid for six weeks , and because the housing benefit was rolled in were not getting paid at all , so evictions happened . there was government interim loans available , but the claimants were and are not always good money managers .

this simplified several payments and allowed a higher retention of earnings for anyone in work

if you have to fill the Universal Credit Application form in John at South Gosforth it is 63 pages long , so I suggest you shackle Cappy to the bar whilst you fill it in

I didn't want to click on to this post , expecting the same old rhetoric from the same old source. Thanks Rob for a clear , concise explanation of universal credit.
Despite the popular view that benefit claimants are living a life of luxury at our expense this is far from the truth , waiting six weeks for payments only plunges them deeper into debt. They can apply for an advanced payment but this is a loan deducted from future payments. Anyone today , in the gig economy and insecure work can find themselves relying on state aid , the largest number of claimants are those actually in work.

the benefits system is a mess and universal credit a great fix , the implementation has been poorly done , by the DWP / HMRC not Teresa May . I get PIP and have heard some horror stories over the interviews or that . the principle of universal credit was you would always be better off in work and that is great .

##i know of no one who thinks that anyone on benefits lives a life of luxury ....as you so boldly suggest louis that again is the type of lefty politics that you reiterate in dogma style time and time again .....but the proof of the pudding is in the massive in crease in people taking short or long term employment and being better off working than sitting at home moaning about what they shouild have ...cappy
