Many years ago we had the St.Tudno and St.Seiriol doing day trips to Llanduno from the landing stage at the Pier Head these trips were very popular. Now some guys have ambitious plans to re-start the service from next year, good luck to them.

Re: Day trips to Llandudno.
I sailed on the St TUDNO in 1949 on a day trip to Llandudno and Menai Straits, we [or the Seamen did, ] rescued people from a sinking yacht on the way back to Liverpool, That really made me want to go to sea.
Hope it comes back.
There is also a Petition to get the Isle of Man boats back to sail from Fleetwood.

people or landlubbers do not relise the dangers of the coast from Holyhead to Liverpool, and the menai straights is one of the most dangerous,

Re: Day trips to Llandudno.
Lifejackets. The first thing I look for when going on board ANY ship.
Pete and I were on the Hoogly River in October (Calcutta ) No lifejackets to be seen. I asked the guide where they were and they were 'downstairs' So I asked for them to be brought up on deck, which they did. The guide said. "I can't think of everything" to which I said,"No, you can't but your first thought should always be safety." How popular was I ?!
regards
Brenda
ps We had an Enterprise sailing dingy when we were growing up. We were told that if we EVER went out without our (big, cumbersome, kapok lifejackets then the boat would be sold.

Early January 1951, Received a Telegram, From the Port Talbot Pool.
Report with Gear., Some couple hrs .later ,I’m climbing the narrow Stairway. Pool Man says”Got a job here for you.. The Kindiesel, Get yourself down to the Shipping Office. She’s sailing at Four.-o’clock. Adding ,”The Mate’s a local boy, Jackie Burns,” I Signed on. J.O. S. Getting on Board, She was a 339 ton Coaster. Sharing a Cabin midships, with an A.B. ,from Preston , The SO.S ,a young irish Trawlerman . and the Cook-Stwd. from the N.E.
She was already Battened Down, The cargo ,.Drums of Carbide , to. Fleetwood. Had Scoffed some sort of Tucker, Mainly ,Cheese.
Out then into the Bristol Channel, She was a bit lively ,down past Lundy island, Though it being my fourth Ship, Was decidedly feeling Sea-sick, Whether or not it was from the concoction I’d scoffed. Wasn’t sure! The next evening ,The S.O.S.and I were trying to catch some sleep. I’d not long “Come off Watch” Suddenly The Door burst Open , Cook Stwd. “Where’s the Lifejackets, She’s broken down” Think it was just after that, the lights Failed. Anyway ,all us and the Mate are huddled in the dark, in this , very small Wardroom ,suppose you’d call it. Conversation was sparse ,”Though the Mate did say, When the A.B. came down Such as “How far are we off that light now?“If We ever get out of this ,I’ll kill that Bst;d chief Engineer. He’s been patching, this thing up,from Port to Port”
Paddy’s turn to relieve the A.B. When He’d entered, He had said “We were getting nearer to some Lighthouse .Then came my turn to change places with Paddy,on the Lee Wing ,of the Bridge .Nothing much one could do, But watch the Seas Pounding down on the Hatch, Which by now was, being lit up by the Loom of the Light,as it came round. And listening to the Captain ‘s voice , via the opened Wheelhouse door,on the Radio, Talking in particular,at that time,To Holyhead Lifeboat ,He incidentally never left the Bridge, All night .Constantly informing them of the Present situation and so on.
As Dawn approached ,the sea subsided a little, Miraculously The tide had turned and ,She’d stopped drifting closer to the Light. and the inevitable rocks.
Out of the Gloom appeared a little larger vessel. The Pass of Balmaha. Amazing !Always remembered , going down to the Locks , Whilst at the Vindi Sea training School, at Sharpness to watch Her Locking in .One Winters evening, some two years previously.
She went Round us ,Pumping out Oil, in order to reduce the verocity of the Seas breaking over us. Breaking Daylight. The New Brighton Life boat appeared ,and Stood by us . THINGS WERE GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME, Then Quietly approaches the Flying Kestrel ,tug , One of Alexandra’s. Took a few Lines ,and we were towed into Liverpool. Awaiting Press ,In the Locks, Anyone Hurt ?No ! Shouts
back Jackie , the Mate . Any Flooding ? another “No.” Disappointed Press!.Diminished Story ,I expect.
Whilst this is going on ,noticed the A.B from Preston determindly ,Legging it up the Quay, Never even Looked Back, .Don’t blame him! We never saw , Hare or Hound ,of him since.
Paddy and I were retained ,on board. The first job the Shore people did .After an inspection that morning ,Was to Lift the lifeboat. That was Well and Truly Rusted in , They had to place wooden Planks under it , Then Jump on them ,to lever it from the Chocks.
Next order from the authorities ,was that the Whole Engine ,Had to come out, and be replaced.
The Mate used Phone Cardiff every night and tell Loverings, the Owners ,what was transpiring. After three or four nights, they Told him to, “Pay-off the Deck Crew.” Meaning , Paddy and I.
Getting back to Wales. At Home. ,My brother tells me,” Mam had just sat down To read the evening ,South Wales Echo. The Headline being ,Welsh Ship disaster, When She let out a Scream, dropping the Paper .He picked it up and continued reading it. Saying “He’s alright . As my last communication had been my Telegram from Port Talbot, “Joining Kindiesel, here” In the Report, it said ,We’d drifted 32 miles,in eight hrs. The Holyhead lifeboat had been Launched ,though was forced to turn back I never knew what Lighthouse it was ?. Obviously close to Holyhead and New Brighton . Would gladly appreciate ,with local knowledge .Which Light ,it may have been?
Incidentally, I find the Kindiesel ,under another name , and Norwegian Owners.finally succumbed to the Elements Somewhere in the Baltic region. Whether there was any loss of life,I have not been able to determine

Yes ,Jim.
About 3 qtrs, way up , from the Grand Hotel. Narrow stairway ,to go up. The popular Walnut Tree pub,Was a little further up, on the other side. (Some Memories there in the Pool ) On entry ,it was like something ,from the Dickens era. Very Small, only place to sit was a Bay window siil. Behind the Counter 3 Staff ,Trevor Denbury, A Double of Wilfred Pickles) Matronly, Mrs Davies and little Idris. A harmless little elder chap. All I ever see Him do, Was Carefully open this Great big fridge, revealing A half small bottle of Milk, and add it to their Teas. Never spoke, except Yes and No.
Mrs Davies ,used to relieve Trevor ,when He was ,On Holiday! She said one day to one of the assembled Big ,Coal burning Firemen." Got a good Job for You Bert ! ,Lovely Ship! I saw it yesterday ,when I passed the Docks, and the Funnel ! OOH! Lovely Funnel". He responds . Bringing Laughs all round ,"But We Don't live in the Funnel Mrs.Davies." Trevor was a Soft-Soaper, You're taking "The Cream of My men ,Captain."ws a fav. expression.
