Great lady
As here in Oz we are some 9 hours ahead of UK I think I may post this today as by the time many of your read this it will be Thursday.
As a young lad in 1952 I recall hearing the news that the King had died. One girl at school then asked would Mr. Churchill be the next King?
We then heard that the very young Elizabeth had been called back from a tour of Kenya and was now the monarch in waiting.
Then the coronation with all the pomp and ceromony shown on the fairly new media Television.
Thursday April 21st that gracious lady will celebrate her 90th birthday, now the longest serving monarch.
A lady who has stood for England and the Commonwealth for over 64 years, is welcomed in most countries, honored by most overseas leaders and has been a source of strength for so many.
She has been through so much in that 90 years, war, recession, family break ups of her own kin, yet in all of this she has stood proud and tall.
She remains a person to admire and look up to. If all were to follow her example the world may well be a better place.
So your majesty I raise my glass to you and thank you for all you have achieved for Great Britain and the Commonwealth, long may your reign continue.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: Great lady
She is surely better than any President on this planet.
No way would I want a Politician to be Head of State. they are bad enough just as MPs.

Re: Great lady
Brian if the monarchy goes, so does the Commonwealth. Who wants to be in the Commonwealth with a part time keeper/President/Dictator at its head. Another thing to consider when casting a vote for the in/out referendum in July. The Monarchy is what keeps the whole shebang together, not Europe, a mixture of wealth and poverty. Imagine having Turncoat in here as president, he must be having second thoughts now on his bluff being called for wanting an early election. Heres one who wont be voting for him. He might as well as a few others who chucked the elected PM out, get a few shocks. Cheers JS

Re: Great lady
I can remember it like yesterday -- we were called into the school hall for assembly, the masters, led by the Principal marched single file onto the stage, dressed in their black gowns and mortar boards and given the news. We sang the National Anthem and then were sent home for the day. Regards Peter in NZ.
