    Default Junk glorious junk

We had food, glorious food now for something different.
We get it all year around, stuffed daily in the letter box, but over the past 3 weeks it has reached a new peak.
Little wonder those delivering do so using a shopping trolley to carry it all.
I have just out of curiosity weighed each lot since November 23rd when it began in earnest. To date a total weight of 2.2 kilos.
Most of it is for encouraging people to spend money they do not have on gifts they do not want.
How many trees are cut down to produce all this JUNK mail?
I am now considering putting the re-cycling bin by the post box and cutting out the middle man.
You can of course put a sign on your box, 'no junk mail' but that does not always work as many deliver on a per house payment.
Do you guys in UK or any where else get as much as this and how is yours delivered?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Indeed John
Seems that the Junk Mail is on the increase for sure, but her indoors likes them and reads almost the entire batch as they arrive! Grrrrrrr!!!
So I cannot throw them out till she has looked through the lot!
But must say she has never actually bought things from them!

I suppose to be fair they do give some good info on various shopping items!
All I look at is the Hardware stuff LOL and of course the Electronics! Mad!!!

But that "No Junk Mail' on post boxes is now way out of date!
    They take no notice!
Like the 'Please don't knock" I have on my front Door still get the idiots knocking!
But for sure some have got an earful from me!
    Cheers

The only junk I like john is that one in the film the man with the Golden Gun, could really go places and do something in a set up with that, maybe Macao to Hong Kong every day and have a floosy in every port, which as getting older would only be a manageable two. When I said I didn't have a mind I forgot to add above the navel. As regards the paper junk it is a disgrace the amount of trees needed for such, and shows only lip service is paid to peoples worries about the environment. Cheers JS

This was discussed on the radio, people phoned in with their ways of dealing with it.One guy said he liked it when there was a reply paid envelope enclosed as he put all the junk into that and posted it back to the sender, imagine if all hands did that that would cost the sender a few bob for nothing.

Before Royal Mail was privatised you could opt out of receiving junk mail, I did, dropped to nil. Now every day it's another batch, straight to the recycle bin.

I also do that Jim, as I consider I am doing my bit for society by keeping a postman employed, also hopefully gaining funds for Royal Mail which may delay any increases in postage rates

That Royal Mail should be called Robbing Mail.
I have spent a fortune on stamps this year and Not one mail has been delivered. ALL AIR MAIL,
Last December I sent a Christmas Card to Tahiti, French Polynesia, £2.25 stamp, Five months later delivered back to my house with a Stamp, Bogota, Columbia not known at this address on the envelope..
Then in May I sent a package to Tahiti in French Polynesia, paid £8.75p, still not delivered Seven Months later.
I complained about it to Their Head Office in Stoke on Trent, One person said they did not know where Tahiti was, another person said , "Is it in the West Indies"? I despair.
I wrote back, I gave them a Latitude and Longitude of Papeete, FA`AA Airport, where my friend works.
I sent a map of the South Pacific, showing French Polynesia and Tahiti clearly marked upon it,
I told them, Tahiti, French Polynesia is a province of France, Polynesia Francais. and from Manchester a one hour flight to Paris, France, and an Air France Air Plane flies from there to Tahiti in 24 hours and ten minutes, every day.
I told them to give all their Employees lessons in geography.
    So I then post.....
I posted one week apart, in July, two Birthday Cards, stamps £2.25p each to Tahiti, French Polynesia, still not arrived Five Months later.
I posted a Card to Tahiti, French Polynesia, stamp£2.25p,in October, still Not arrived.
That is over £17.25p in wasted postage plus the cost of the Contents.
I wrote and told them they should be call Robbing Mail , not Royal Mail. an in future I will put the stamps on and shove them down the grid in the gutter outside the Post Office and get the same Result, but at least I will know where my mail is.
So in three weeks I have to go and take my mail with me to Tahiti myself so I will know it gets there.
    Cheers
    Brian

Brian, we get concessional rates on post over the Christmas season, five cents off on local but nothing on overseas. But next yedar the 70 cent local goes to $1. Last year the gov decided that seniors should hgave acheaper rate of postage, maybe they think seniors will write and keep the PO in business, stamps at 60 cents. They will remain at that price even when the new rate comes in. Each senior is allowed about five books of six stampa each during the year. So family and friends will stil, with the help of senior family and friends, be able to send now at 60 cents. How good id that?
