Hello Jacyn
I can quite understand your excitement on your upcoming Voyage!
It must be a great feeling,to be able to sail on such a luxurious Ship!
I am sure you and your Mum will really enjoy!
One day when I hit the Jackpot (if ever haha) I will also think of taking such a Voyage for Nostalgia sake!
Now when you go aboard, use your charms to get to know the important People there, like the Captain haha! then you can do all kinds of things ,a trip to the Bridge would be fantastic!
All the best
Cheers

Re: Queen Mary 2014
Hi Jacyn , hope you enjoy QM2,
I did the Maiden Voyage on Qm2 in January 2004 and again on her first trip from Fort Lauderdale down to West Indies , South America, round Cape Horn and up the Pacific coast of South America to Los Angeles in 2006.
She is a true Liner not just a cruise boat.
She is the best of all of the Cunard ships.
When I was there I had connections, I knew the Commodore and spent quite a while on the bridge. Very few passengers ever get to go there due to Security. There are steel doors with security digital locks, Get to know the Caoptain or Staff Captain, tell him of your connections in the MN and can you go up there, You may be lucky. Atb the Captains Reception in the Queens Room usually 2nd day out make yourself known, as there are 2000 other people wanting to do it.
The cabins are well appointed even got the internet in each cabin for emails in and out.
There is a planetarium in the Theatre, the only one at sea, well worth going to , and see the Universe.
I have a lot of photos of the Bridge , very interesting.
I have a lot of photos taken in the wheel house just cannot find them at the moment.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Queen Mary 2014
Thanks for the tips, Doc and Brian. Now tell me, is the Captains Reception for first class passengers only or for all? My Mum sailed on her two years ago but made no mention of it. I shall talk to everyone I can and with a bit o' luck, I'll get a tour.
I'm especially interested to hear about the internet in every cabin as I'm debating whether or not to take my laptop. I watched a video on her a while back but it wasn't clear about the internet, other than there is access. The planetarium sounds wonderful. I've been to the one in Toronto a few times but, sadly, it was shut down several years ago.
Also hoping to visit the National Archives whilst in London.
Much planning to do....

Re: Queen Mary 2014
Congratulations Jacyn,
I hope you and you Mum enjoy your trip.
I can remember seeing the original Queen Mary steaming out of New York sometime in 1957 and thats the nearest Ive ever been to a passenger liner.
Bon Voyage.

Re: Queen Mary 2014
Hi Jacyn
The Master of the QM2 when you go on it maybe Captain Chris Wells ex Shell Tankers, from the South of England
and the Staff Captain Hamish Sumter ex Bank Line. a Yorkshire man .
Both are extremley nice gentlemen.just say you know me, you may get your wish or thrown off the ship.
Sometimes they change them around from one ship to another.
Below is a photo of me with Commodore Ron Warwick, now retired, he was the first Master on QM2
He was Master of the QE2, his father `Bil` Warwick was also the first Master of QE2 and Commodore of Cunard Line and Master of the old Queen Mary. A very interesting and nice gentleman.
The Photo is on the Bridge of Queen Mary 2 by the starboard control console.
There was the internet in every cabin when I was there, the TV is the screen for the computer.
The Planetarium is fantastic, the seats lie back and you look above at a huge dome and all the universe is projected in it and you` fly` through space, wonderful.
There is loads of space, even with a full capacity of 2,600 passengers it seems empty.
A lovely dining room, the Britannia. If you do not like your table see the Matre de and he will gladly change it for you. Lots of things to do so you never get bored.
Enjoy.
Brian

Re: Queen Mary 2014
That was not too bad Vernon, she was not doing sommersaults as we used to do in the western ocean, she was fairly steady.
The sea wasnt too bad for the time of year. she also has two sets of Stablizers, one pair forard and one pair aft.
The shots near the end showing the Theatre you can see the planetarium hanging off the deck Head
or ceiling for Jacyn, That dome comes down towards the audience.
These are big seas. [ I wonder why my normal size picture comes out small??]
Cheers

Re: Queen Mary 2014
Yikes, Doc. I love the ocean but I'm glad we're sailing in the late spring/early summer instead of November. And thank goodness for stabilizers!
I did feel a wee bit seasick when crossing the channel on QE2 in '73. Sure hope I don't feel that way again.
Nice pics, Brian. I'll keep those names in mind too. If memory serves me correctly (and it may not), wasn't one of the dining rooms on QE2 also named Britannia??
Cheers,
Jacyn
