Doe's anyone bother to watch the sun rise and set anymore? as being a bit of a painter i see the colours in a sunset we see but we don't look and we look but don't see? next time after a sunny day have a look and see for yourself?jp

I do John,
There some fantastic sights, especially on the coast looking out at sea on a good sunset. The colours are fantastic.
I do a bit of painting now and again when the mood takes me, I did it quite a lot when I was at sea, but since I retired I dont seem to find too much time.
Here are three photos I took on Morecambe Bay of the same sunset. The first one is on ZOOM ,
The last one is sunset at La Jolla in San Diego, overlooking the Cowboy Movie Star, Dale Roberston`s house.
I have some good ones I took in the South Pacific last year, when I find them I will put them on

I quite often do John.I live on the top floor of a 13 storey block. Get to see some really fantastic sunsets from high up. The block faces Southampton Water and the Docks are about a mile away in a straight line. I get to see all the Cruise Liners and Container Ships and others by just looking out of the window.I wouldn't move from here unless I had to for some reason.

brian i do some landscapes and some of the skies colours if you put the to canvas they would not look right they come in every colour possible and fascinating to?jp

Always reminds me of taken an amplitude Sin Amp =Sin Dec Sec Lat. For those not familiar was a compass error. Which if didnt take used to get Ass kicked off the old man. Wouldnt know if the old compass deviation book was kept up to date on these so called modern vessels. Cheers John Sabourn.

Those who never ventured on to the oceans of the world have no concept of how good a sunset can be. Wartching the sun set, or rise from the deck of a ship is one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see.

Especially through the prism on the azimuth mirror on the standard compass. As regards sunset used to always stay and watch to see the green flash. Could count the numbers on one hand the time have seen. It is there however. Cheers John Sabourn.

Here in the Mountains there are some wonderfull Sunrises and Sunsets as well,our back Sunroom looks out to the N/W and i often sit on a nice Evening watching the Sunset! It of course rises in the East but on the Deck which has a larger viewing Area we can clearly see it!

Those Pics you have there Brian are wonderfull,and can make nice Screen Backgrounds!

Colin you sound to have a wonderfull sopt as well,looking over the Dock Area,must be lovely seing the Big Liners coming in!
You as said would have a good sight of the Sunsets etc!
Now sit on that Balcony (i presume there is one) and watch out over the City and one day soon you will see a little Sunbeam walking down the Main Drag! LOL! (That me) No wonder you wouldnt move!!

Compass record book recording gyro and magnetic compass error is still maintained as it is a statutory requirement.
Strangely enough I was watching a t.v. program the other day when the question was asked about when does the sun go below the horizon and not one contestant could give the right answer.
Only ever saw one green flash all the time I was at sea.
I have a fantastic photo somewhere that my wife took of the sunset in the Gulf Of Aden when she was with me. The actual sun set is brilliant colours but when the film was developed right in the foreground in a dead calm sea was a whale sounding and the plume coming from its blow hole was caught in the last of the suns rays. You can see the whale as clear as a bell but until the film was developed we had not seen it as we were concentrating on pushing the camera shutter button at just the right moment.
