    Default GSNC's SEAMEW

In April, 1947, I joined the Seamew brand new from her builder's yard (SP Austin, Sunderland). After 7 months of living in a 6-berth cabin in the foc's'le of Shaw Savill's old Fordsdale, the Seamews single-berth cabins were like a luxury! Great food too! The downside was that we had to do "watch and Watch" -four on/four off which was hard for a grwowing lad!
We did the London Dock-Oporto run bringing back barrels of port wine- a full cargo of it. I enjoyed six months in her, but crossing the Bay of Biscay twice a monthin winter didn't appeal so I signed off.
