Just a question.....
Wouldn't there have been s/one on the bridge of the Ferry looking at the radar?
I know it was dark but it seems from the pictures taken a few hours later that the sea was relatively calm.
Fishing vessels are usually well lit. (watched all the "Trawlermen" programmes)
May they rest in peace

Jersey going through a bad patch this morning, a large explosion some fatalities and 12 missing from a block of flats, sounds like a cylinder of some sort, or gas.

#4 Brenda, just a guess on my part, the ship Commodore Goodwill may have picked up the trawlers fishing gear and dragged her under before she could stop. Looking at the damage to the ship looks like drag marks across her bow. Just my opinion.

#4 Brenda fishing vessels can be poor radar targets and mostly all have a metal radar responder on their mast somewhere to make them more radar visible . One year in the North Sea we were storm bound hove to and going backwards . There was a trawler put out a mayday acouple of miles away and there was no wayI couldreach him or launch a boat. I talked to him on the. VHF until he finally sank don’t think there were any survivors I finished up that night 120 miles south of where I should have been , the only ships out there during those conditions are fishermen and the oil rig standby vessels. Before the oil rig was ballasted rightdown he reported a wave of 100 feet going through his legs , must have really been worried when we also disappeared going south at knots backwards.
Cheers JS....

Thank you for your help; makes things a bit clearer. I suppose there will be more answers from the Ferry Master at the Enquiry , which will follow.
It's all so desperately sad.
Thankfully, disasters at sea are less rare than they used to be.

According to Google between 2011 and 2022 , a total of 892 vessels have gone to Davy Jones locker .JS

There could be many scenarios so best wait until the facts come to light.
