Hi George, What a great list of ships, I was on the Carinthia for over 2 years in the 60,s tried to get on the cargo ships when she was sold but unable to get one. Ended up with Houlders for 17 years now retired but still have many fond memories of my time with Cunard.

    Default re: Scotia

Hi there, I hope you are well.

My Dad was in the Merchant Navy in the 60's and his last trip was on the Scotia (1966/67 I think).

Do you have any pictures of the vessel? We can't find any on the internet, do you know if there are any?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.
    Nick.

G'day greek, if you go into the gallery on this site you will find a host of ships photos. If not there then you could try Ships Nostalgia as they have a large gallery as well.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Default Borrowed Atlas

    Hi George,

I sailed with you on the Alaunia. I know it was you because I borrowed your Atlas. Will try and look it out and send it back!

Welcome George and looking forward to hearing about your time on two of the ships that you listed. The Pavia and the Andania as you where on them in 1064 that would have to make you the oldest member here. My money is on other members that will remember an earlier time as no matter what you have done or what hardships that you have encountered it will be just the same as ever. There will be someone that has had it worse or was on an earlier ship than yourself. So as John would say. Kick back open a cold one and enjoy the ride. Hope that you take this post as a light hearted way to welcome you and we all get a laugh out of our own typos as well.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

Did you ever go to the diner in New York on corner of 12th avenue and 51st street?Do you have any memory of the other corner, stores or business, on 52nd street? Pier 92, North Rivers, Cunard.
I am looking for the years 1961 to 1972 and also in the 1950s, possibly.

The park is important. The merchant navy club was nearby. There were games played on the park involving seaman and locals.
The store on the corner before the Hustler Club was selling jukeboxes made by Packard and then Wurlitzer.
1947 Eisen and Son closed it down.I have a gap from 1947 to 1961 for its useage.Any ideas? It had a Public Assembly license in 1961.Was there a club or bar for dancing??
I know it was owned by my cousin as of October 1961 and in his wifes hands up to 1992.I trust that my research can jog fellow seamans memories and help share those times of Luxury Liner Row as it was called.
    Any more memories?

Ever heard of a Hotel Bertolotto,San Miguel, Lima, Coastal Road, Av Costanera, famous book was written here about a ship.My great uncle allegedly owned this hotel at sometime when the book was written about the Ship, 1930s, the hotel was in use at least until the end of the 1960s.It was one of best!

Any success in finding this dvd?
It is of great interest to me, especially any views of DeWitt Clinton Park and the corner of 52nd street and 12th avenue.Have you or has anyone any photographs of Pier 92 NYC from 1950s to 1970s?
Is there any footage of the old Queen Elizabeth from 1968?
Any footage, photographs of ships entering the Pier 92 from 1950s to 1970s, in detail, much appreciated.

Thank you.I will contact Bill Miller. He has a lot of material and something will show up.

This is interesting. If I can get the business letter-headed 716 12th avenue corner of 52nd Street, Bernard's clothing store, from my aunt, I will post it here.
The letter I had on fading yellowed paper bears the date of October 1961, coinciding with the your memories.
I have seen a photograph of Bernard and his wife taken during the 1950s, will upload if I can get it.I would imagine that he sold his clothes and contributed to the Liverpool scene.
Zellins are in Florida.Saul Zellin is in his 80s.There are articles from NY Times about them. The diner was their sixth that they set up and it opened in 1957(?) prior to this it was a similar eatery.
It was called something like Anchor Dining, from what I have seen.
