Thanks Ivan,
Maybe they should give us a Medical to prove we are fitter than the average young fellow.
I am off to Fleetwood for a couple of days now, I will continue when I get back
Cheers

It would appear there is no global policy on travel insurance. My brother in law and his wife like to go to Spain for the winter. She is now 80 though he is a few years her junior. He has over the last few years found it harder to get travel insurance. Went to book this year and told his wife is too old to get travel insurance if they fly to Spain, but if he drives there then not a problem, we can insure you! I get the feeling they make it up as they go along.
Capt. Kong - Iwas recently seeking similar advice on another site as could not get Insurance for "Pre Exisisting Conditioins" having been knocked back for the first time by my usual Ins. cover, (I would be turning 85 on my travel) -Two people suggested I should try "Marks & Spencer Insurance" as they had no age limit. I duly contacted them on the net and from what I could gather they would have covered me but only if a resident of the UK which obviously I'm not. If you have not yet arranged cover maybe they would be worth a try ?? Regards
Hi Lionel
Was with Marks and Spencer some years ago, when I was 69 years and 364 days old it was okay, as soon as I logged up 69 years and 365 days old, the insurance rate trebled to astronomical figures, all these years later I still haven't worked out how in the passing of 24 hours I became a liability.
Tried them again recently, they weren't interested in anyone over 70, especially if travelling to USA, the premiums and conditions were so onerous you knew they didn't really want you no matter how fit you were for your age
Insurance companies seem to be run by young bucks who think they will never get old
Ivan-G"Day - Strange as one of the people that suggested I try them advised me he had no problem taking out insurance on his Mother In Law in her late 80's.without any problems . As you say must have changed their rules? I finished up using cover under my wifes gold card(would not cover me for pre-existing conditions) but did not cost anything -whereas my card issued from different bank would not cover me for anything due to age!! Times like this it's hard not to go along with the view that old age sucks!!
Hi All.
Don't know what you old codgers want life insurance for, my wife and I [Married 52 years} and still young, have traveled a little, Twice to the UK from Aus,flown more times over the Tasman than the Union Company did trips across, plus internal flights here and in NZ, and never once have we had insurance, in fact we have never had personal insurance ever. House and car yes. I have just left my body to the Australian National University Medical school,so that young students can learn, it also takes care of funeral expenses. It's not being mean but I hate insurance Companies look what they did to the people of Queensland after the floods, all that money payed out and no return.
Cheers Des
Unfortunately Des being fit and active and in your 70's doesn't mean a bloody thing over here, some airlines and travel companies will not complete a booking for you unless you have insurance, if embarking within the EEC under EEC rules they are responsible for you should anything go wrong, yes a lot of us 70 plus are fitter than the 40 minus but it don't mean a thing to the booking computer. Not only do you have to confirm you have insurance you sometimes have to quote the company and policy number, yes we know its a scam, but if you want to travel the choice is NOT always yours. My wife and I dance three times a week, rock n roll, salsa, ceroc, quickstep, my mate also dances plus swims a mile every day in the sea (in the UK) cycles 10 miles every day, he's 75 on Monday but he's still lumbered with insurance.
And you can bet your bottom dollar, should you be able to circumnavigate the rules, that is the one trip you will really need your insurance, so you cannot judge the book by the cover we are not taking out insurance because we want to, I mean who the hell wants to pay insurance companies anything, very few of us, but our choices are limited.
That is right Ivan.
No one needs insurance, Except for that one day when the unexpected happens.
If you are in the States and you have an accident or a heart attack you could end up with a million dollars plus of debt.
It does not matter how many hospitals you have donated your body to, if you are in some countries and the unexpected happens, they are not going to repatriate you. you or your family will have pay for an enormous debt.
I have never needed insurance, I gallop around the planet every year, I have been lucky , but it is Sods Law that if I had no insurance, something diabollical would happen.
Cheers
Brian.
As I see it the problem is if you never have insurance then things may be OK. But if you have had it then drop it sure as eggs are eggs something will go wrong. But so many of the insurance companies have such obscure notices you never see that when you come to claim they tell you, 'sorry sir but that is not covered or you do need additional cover for that'. Many years ago had a travel bag stole as we boarded a bus, we had been told to leave our hand luggage on the ground and it would be loadede and taken off at the hotel. Thgere were about 50 of us and six lost some piece or other. When I wrote to the insurance company I got compensation of $100, that they told me was the normal for a piece of luggage no matter what size. If I wanted better then I should have listed evey piece of clothing etc in the case when taking out the insurance. Now I use the Gold Card insurance, have only had to make one claim but it was dealt with without any problems.
