Travel insurance???
Hi
Does any old timer have any difficulties getting travel insurance?
I have been on the internet trying to get some for next Januarys trip on the Queen Elizabeth from San Francisco to Sydney.
I had a regular Insurance Co. but they have discovered, Shock, Horror. I am 76. No Insurance, WHY?????
I. because of my age 76. 2. I am calling in at the US of A. 3. I am calling in at Australia, 4 , I am close to death because I have Blood Pressure, even tho` it is controlled by a tablet. 5. I had an operation within the last two years. a cartilage in my knee after being hit by a car.
I have tried many others, they are the same, some start at £1,500 for a 31 day trip. mine is 54 days. then how many times in hospital in the last two years, are you on any medication, and what for, etc. etc. then Sorry you cannot be insured .
I tried SAGA they look after elderly people, No chance. I tried AGE Concern, UK, No chance.
The fact that I am built like King Kong, exercise with weights and use the exercise bike keeping fit, with a body that any teenager would die for, does not come into it. I am classed as a little old man who is on his way out at anytime.
What has a couple got to do to be Insured, and if so , not to be ripped off.
Is this the end of my travelling days????
I dont do eUROPE,I do not like eUROPE, I try to stay as far away as possible from eUROPE.
I may have a chance of Insurance if I did eUROPE, but no way.
Also I do not do Islamic countries.
So I guess thats it. END OF.
.
.
I have just insured my house, they said "Is there any water within 400 metres of the house, " I said there is a little duck pond about 200 metres away down the bottom of a hill in the park. Shock, Horror, you are in danger of being flooded. We will have to charge you another 100 pounds to cover you from being flooded.
I have been in my house for 48 years, the level of the water has never inctreased by a quarter of an inch.
They have never asked that question before in the 48 years, These Gangsters have you at their mercy.

Hi Captain Kong,
I had exactly the same problem with house and insurance problems when i went for a 3 month round the world airline ticket, most insurances only cover approx 30 days, however i went and got an American Express platinum card, covers all travel, any duration, world wide, and has a good quality of cover, the cost for me and my wife is £300 yearly, so we keep it up yearly because as you say it gets more difficult as we get older, i am 71, my wife 66, anyway could be worth a telephone call. you do need a certain level of income to qualify for the platinum card. Best of luck Keith Tindell

now come on brian. there must be someone on site in the insurance game. get them to make a group booking for a cruise on a small ship not necersarily a cruise ship. get them to agree on burial at sea if needed and away you go. i agree with you about europe.(thats the wish bit out the way)
if you have been such a good customer of cunard or whoever owns the QE now, why can't they insure you? alf

I have a Cooperative Bank account, and they give free travel insurance, Airport Lounge 4 free a year, I pay a monthly fee, but also have breakdown cover, for me in any car, I have to pay £35 for a years travel insurance now, since I had a quadruple bypass over 4 years ago, Saga charged me £103 for 7 days travel insurance the year I had the operation! maybe worth looking into, regards Ron

Hi Brian,
We have a platinum bank account with Lloyds TSB and travel insurance is included in the package both for Europe and Worldwide. Also included is AA membership, the cost for having the account is £9.00 per month.
Also Barclaycard give you limited insurance free if you use your card to book your travel arrangements.
Regards,
John
