Hi mate, I also sailed on the Amberton from 1960 to 1964 as apprentice.
Can you remember any of the lads that were aboard with you?

Hi Allen . What is all this about the food , after 45 years you didn"t like what we cooked , I must have been a dodgy cook. Thinking back if you are comparing it to the dribbling STEAKS we had in Argentine, hands up no contest. On second thoughts I was a dodgy cook . 1963-1964 what a trip , reliving our memories and now creating new ones . Burnley2 West Ham1 6/2/2010 life is great.
I AM 65 AND I AM A PC

Big match nights on the Amberton
Hi Allen do you remember I got a new radio in Kuala Lumper one of the ABs put me an ariel up on the funnel and we used to listen to all the Cassius Clay fights (as he was then), and all the big footie matches.
Burnley were the best team in the country then(nice one). that radio believe it or not I have just
thrown away. My mind keeps throwing these memories up. Im hoping one day Ill be able to
remember the 3 things I went to the supermarket for.
Cheers for now Bob

Ariels
................one of the ABs put me an ariel up on the funnel
You've reminded me of a dodge we used to use to get reception in the ship.
We'd get a length of copper wire, bare an end of it and fix it to the porthole screws, take seven turns around the radio, and then the rest out the porthole. You could tune and use the radio in the normal way, but you could 'fine tune' it by moving the radio within the coil - think we called it a Marconi ariel.
