Joined the old La Pampa, Signed on London, 28/3/57 as a very young R/O and flew out to join her in Amsterdam. First trip to LA with cars from Dagenham, then a year carrying Pipes out to Canada from Middlesbourgh for the Trans Canadian Gas Line. A rough old girl but we had great times.John MacLeod

I did a trip on La Cumbre around that time as A/S joining October 56 in Rotterdam and leaving her in February 57. We were on the coal run Newport News Va to the continent, winter N.Atlantic weather so not very comfortable but the ship was OK. La Cumbre s wartime service had been as a merchant aircraft carrier (Empire Mc Dernott) and a picture of her in that role was in the saloon I recall. Good old days ??
