    Cool Lost Friends

    Hi,
Time certainly plays tricks on your mind, I went on that many BP ships in ports and dry docks (socialising)
that I confuse myself with the ships I actually served on.
Anyway I joined the Chivalry in 1969 after completing a Pre-Sea Induction Course at Leith Marine College, sailing the Baltic over Christmas and the winter. We got Icebound in Norrkopping for 3 weeks, I was there that long, I nearly got married.
Next trip was the Vision, I joined the ship in Ceylon as it was known then, the ship had recently towed a stricken ship to safety in the Indian Ocean and all on board were 'quids in'. Half way thro' the trip I was promoted to 4th Eng on the Mallard and spent the rest of the trip coasting.
Next trip I joined the Seafarer (I think ) in Italy and was promoted to 3rd some weeks later after the original 3rd broke his leg playing football, it was actually my tackle which did the damage.
The Kiwi was my next trip (I think) in circa 1971-72. I joined the ship in Madagasca with the 1st O,Sparks and Chief Steward, I remember playing guitar on stage in a nightclub waitng for the ship to dock. This was a very interesting trip with the ship breaking down and taken to dry-dock in Durban ending in the tragic death of the Master coming out of the Congo with Malaria.
After 6 months Study leave I joined a ship in Hamburg and developed a perforated eardrum (turbo blowers) and ended my BP career.
It would be great if anyone can remember me from this short time, I was the one who would be last out of the bar draging my guitar behind me. Also they may be able to correct me on above memories.

Roger, welcome to the site. If you care to list all your ships with some dates you may well get replies from some who knew you. So sit back with a cold one and enjoy the voyage.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Hi Roger.
Welcome aboard, you hold an unique record there, the only man to achieve promotion by tackling a man on the soccer field. Hope you enjoy the site and maybe you will find one of your old shipmates down the track.
    Cheers Des
