Hi John
Have just checked my discharge book to confirm dates. And I see I sailed with you on the Esk I was galley boy (2nd trip)

Hi David
Yes we did give the bar a makeover that trip.It was Dave the Cpos idea.Gil Barber the old man.gave his permission on the proviso that if he didnt like it we had to put it back to how jt was.Still keep in contact with three of lads from the ESK.Do you remember Mick Preston. He was PO and I took over from him when he left to join the Gas Enterprise.Iam also in touch with Jim Ward who was also PO and Snowy Spooner S1.Dave Moon was killed on R class VLCC out in Labuan Bay about new year 86 during the agency days.all the best now John

Hi John
I can remember some names but not faces and vice versa !! although I do remember snowy quite well for some reason.
Also remember hearing about Dave Moons untimely death.
The Esk turned into a pretty good trip, some good lads on her I enjoyed that trip. I was youngest on board at new year when we rang out the old year and in the new. Although Gil Barber wasn't old man then.
Managed to stay at sea until mid '88 then had to come shoreside when Wallems (agency) let me go.
Still it was good while it lasted
All the best
David

Hi Louis
The trip myself and David were talking about was far from from jetties and the Persian Gulf.It was load Grange mouth ,18 hour run to the Isle of grain,discharge,tankwash,backload,18 hours back to Grangemouth. We got 5 days in each port every time. She was hard work but we still found time to party. We did that for 3 months it was my first trip as PO(pumpman)so it was a baptism of fire.As David said a great crowd and a good trip, yes and good feeders,as good as any 5 star hotel. The Gp crowd sailed together as a team, consisting of a CPO 2POs 3 seaman ones 3 seaman two s 3 seaman threes and two trainees thatwere not part of the team.Tankers great ships.
