Re: 4 bells rum
In one of my pubs we had an over strength rum for a number of customers who liked it. One day the customs and exise men came to do a check on the quality and strength of all spirits on sale to ensure we were serving the right stuff. It took them some time and info from me before they understood why this rum was different to the others. as one of them told me he had never seen over proof rum on sale in a pub before. Should get out more if you ask me.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: 4 bells rum
Never gave much thought to it in the past until my eyes lit up at the mention of 4 bells. that is apart from it being 0200 1000 1400 1800 2200 hrs. Also the name Johnshaven as was on a ship called the same, as well as the Sandhaven and Burnhaven, so imagine they are all places in Scotland, which never thought about before, but is logical I suppose as were all owned at one time by Harrisons of Glasgow. The Alnwick rum also never heard of but know the area very well being in Northumberland. Cheers JS

Re: 4 bells rum
You can still buy four bells rum, made by Challis and Stern, in London.
