Re: Traveling again
when i was flying (back in the 1960`s ) we used to stay at Raffles, one time there ( and the last ) we had a crew party where one of the stewardess`es fell asleep after a few drinks, as it was her room we left quietly but came back with all the potted plants we could find and filled her room with them, when she awoke she had to walk across the plants to get out. there was merry hell to pay and we were thrown out of the hotel, never to stay there again. many a drink was poured down in the long bar.
around the corner from Raffles was a resturajnt called the "Troika" fantastic Russian food along with good steaks, say cheers for me when you raise that glass JS.

Re: Traveling again
Have a good trip John, have some fond memories of Fremantle in the 70's, and also a restaurant called Captain Fremantles which served the most delicious seafood, became good friends of the local ship chandlers (Paino) who took my wife under their wing when the horrific memories took place when changing the flag of a Swiss owned ship from Greek to Singapore flags involving Greek, Yugoslav and Bengali crews, quite a volatile mixture involving knives, guns, crowbars and armed police, and then there was the paperwork and not forgetting the helpful (????) Australian WWF, fond memories indeed. And when you eventually returned to the office they thought you'd had a nice holiday.
Bon voyage and look forward to your account, no not your bluddy bar bill account!

Re: Traveling again
Enjoy your trip John, I was in Raffles in March when I met our Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne, tried to get a Sub off him. but he was wasting his money buying his wife a present.
We always go to Raffles, a visit to Singers is not a visit until you go back there. Good Raffles restaurant at the back of the Long Bar.
Spend a little time in Freo and see our John Sabourn, he lives down in Rockingham not far, if you buy him a beer he will come to Freo to see you.
See if he has cut his beard off yet.
En joy, Cheers
Brian.

Re: Traveling again
#6.... The beard went a long time ago Brian. After seeing yours it really put me off having one. I havent seen my sister yet as had a bet I would keep it for a year. The bet was 100 dollars so she thinks I still have. Still another 6 months before I see her, not parting with a 100 dollars. Give my regards to Mohammed Ali Robey when you see him in Port Said. Cappy says can you bring him back any Arab trinkets for keeping Mary amused as is suffering from a mild depression after Cappy told her she wasnt paying her way. Cheers Bon Voyage or should say Wa'ha Aleikum Es Salaam. The proper form of address as you know George Robey will say to you Es Salaam Aleikum, you will then say Aleikum Es Salaam, he will then say Wa"ha Aleikum Es Salaam. You of course being in constant touch with members of the faith are well aware of this. So I will just stick with the frog language Bon Voyage, Cheers John S
