Default Help Required for Ship's Name

    Hi,
I am hoping that someone can help me in finding out a ship's name that my dad served on, he worked for Scottish Shipping, Canadian Shipping and also for the S.A. Navy, anyway, my mum can't remember the name of a particular ship which apparently has a Welsh name (a town or city name) but on searching the internet I can't find any information.
I think that the period my mum is referring to is probably from about 1968 - 1981 approx.
I get a feeling she is a little confused though!
Thanks in anticipation for any help anyone can give me.

    Default Please help us .....

To be honest we will be a bit confused also, welcome to the site and hopefuly all will try to help, but we do need more to work on, your dads full name, even date of birth and as much else as pos would help. Also when you search on the net what do you search for? You may hopefully hold the key to the info needed to unlock all, but would have to share much with us, that we can help further.

Please help us to help you, with as much info as possible.

    K.

    Default Ship!!

    Hi
Could that not have been the Scottish Ship Management Services Company!
They started up in 1968 and had one or two Ships with sort of Welsh names!???
    Cheers

    Default Welsh Connections.......

    Welcome K.C.York

As a starter for your query, dip into some of my suggestions here:
Gibbs Ship Management/Welsh Ore Carriers Ltd:-
    EAST WALES
    WELSH HERALD
    WELSH MINSTREL

    Idwal Williams Co/Graig Shipping:-
    GLYNAFON
    GLYNTAFF
    GRAIGFELEN
    GRAIGFFION
    GRAIGWERDD

    Evan Thomas Radcliffe Co:-
    LLANGORSE
    LLANISHEN
    LLANTRISANT
    LLANWERN

    Reardon Smith Line,Cardiff:-
    CARDIFF CITY
    WELSH CITY

One with both a Welsh and Scottish connection is:-Glen Line.Their ships were named after Scottish 'Glens' e.g. GLENAFFRIC,GLENOGLE etc.Later they took over the Shire Line which were all named after Welsh Counties:-
    BRECONSHIRE
    CARDIGANSHIRE
    DENBIGHSHIRE
    FLINTSHIRE
    PEMBROKESHIRE

Also the parent company (Ocean Fleets) of Liverpool, owned Blue Funnel Line, which because of the relatively high proportion of Welsh seafarers employed in it's ships was colloquially referred to amongst seafarers as the 'Welsh Navy'.

    All the Best!

    Hi All,

Thank you so much for your help, dad worked for Scottish Shipping and also for Canadian Shipping.

I have a little bit of paperwork of his to look through, so hopefully something there will give me some more info. If not, then I will definitely be back for some more help.

    Thanks again, it's much appreciated.

    Kathleen
